And my only thought is of the cargo hold. Were there any pets trapped in crates in the cargo compartment where airlines insist they ride?

TCAS? That alone makes me feel ( a wee bit) better! It figures - I get out of the biz right when something like that comes along! . I quit the airlines in '89 to try & start a family. I actually missed my Mom's 80th birthday in Colorado last year - all because of this ridiculous fear of mine.

Hopefully yesterday's events will put air traffic safety in the limelight for more than just a week.

Pipers-wasn't it in '89 or early '90 when the plane went into the water at LGA?

LGA has shorter than normal runways, that's why only certain class of jetliners can take off and land there. My sister, who lives in Long Island, tells me whenever they land at Laguardia, the flight crew slams those brakes on to slow the aircraft down because of the short runways.

I'm sure it all worked out for the best. Same with my daughter. She really wanted the appointment for Annapolis and was invited down one weekend.
But our congressman gave her the appointment at the MMA.
She ended up ROTC who gave her a full scholarlship at LaSalle. She dropped out after a year and worked as a waitress for a year. Saved her money then finished at Temple then got married.
Life has twist and turns but in the end, it works out.

Not 100% sure...I bet Magnum Mike knows though!

LGA is known for those skid to a stop runways. Logan has a few too.
