Leaving Sacramento airport a flock of birds entered one of the engines so we circled Folsom lake then headed back to the airport. Only 1 engine went out. Should have seen the condition of that engine though. Not good. Took 6 hours for them to get a replacement plane in from San Francisco.

After flying back from New York, we were circling around Heathrow in a 'stack' waiting to land. We were near the top when our pilot was given permission to begin our descent to land and as we did we all looked out of the left hand windows (I was sitting next to a window so I got a perfect view) and got a shock. There was another transatlantic jet, a Continental 777, about 200 yards to our left on the same level. It was surreal because of how close we were and there was no way it was intentional because when we first saw it we were behind but as we moved ahead of it it suddenly banked off sharply to the left in a "Holy sh*t, look what's next to us" kind of movement. It's a weird feeling, knowing that someone only has to bank slightly in the wrong direction for you to be smashed out of the sky in a mass of tangled metal.

Something just like that happened to me once. We were approaching the airport, passengers receiving all of the standard announcements. I glanced out of the window, pointed out a nearby plane to my husband. Husband calmly said, "That plane is way too close; something's got to happen". A second later there was a hurried anouncement, Ladies and gentlemen... something about airspace... rapid decent. Oh, yeah.

I have been on an airplane twice in my life. As luck would have it, on one of those occasions back in 1973, we were approaching Philadelphia and there was a very loud BOOM followed by violent shaking of the plane. I looked up and looked around and nobody seemed the least bit concerned about it.
We landed safely. No problems. I was on one other plane - a small one. That's it for me. I'm not the least bit interested in ever getting in another one ever.

Years ago I was on a flight with William Shatner. He had the window seat and he was ranting about something that he saw on the wing.

Was it a Klingon?
I would have had the urge to tell him "I'm a doctor, not an aircraft mechanic Jim!"

Come to think of it, he did mention something about a Klingon, right after he got back from the restroom.

I hope he didn't cause too much of a flap about it.
