Another dust & wind storm moved into the area last night causing some damage in different areas of the city. So far nothing terrible had happened in my area. I did enjoy the rain that we got however. It was a large enough amount that it did some good for the plants and trees. And all the dust that blew in was washed away by the rain all night and early this morning.
The sun came out this morning! The start of a beautiful day again.

California Weather in the Valley of the Sun... I listened to rain in the wee hours of the morning. I loved it I appreciated every drop. Oh how I needed it and good weather in the desert is a good thing.

When you need rain, you do appreciate every single raindrop...the sound, the scent is really awesome.

possibly the best day of this year for me
Today was extra special. Mrs Aks and I were asked if we’d like to attend a special day at the state university. This Saturday the public was invited to spend a day exploring Earth and space with ASU scientists at the Physical Science building where the students had prepared a number of tables for displays of earth and space studies that the students were involved in.
It was amazing to see (and learn) from all the students and teachers who worked on this science fair. We were especially pleased because we were “asked” to attend by a dear friend of ours, a single mother of three wonderful children. She has “two” sons, both students attending the university and both were at the event today telling visitors about the science that they were involved in.
One of them is a senior in aerospace engineering and the other is a freshman in computer science and engineering. These two young men have received four year scholarships for their high academics while in high school. I can’t imagine how a single working mother of three could have such wonderful children who excel in school and never get into trouble with gangs or school “clicks”. The third child is a girl in junior high and is a straight A student on the honor roles every year.
So I was able to spend the day with what I call my adopted family who made me proud. I looked around at the event and realized there were about fifty students helping out with the event display tables. There are hundreds and hundreds of students in engineering yet only a small handful of fifty or so were honored to participate. It says a lot about a parent who has a student among these fifty, and it says even more when a mother has “two” sons that are special enough to be there today.

It does indeed, Aks. It also says alot about humans who support families to grow, learn and develop. It's wonderful that they think so highly of you and Mrs. Aks that they wanted you there. Wonderful story...thanks for sharing.

It was nice enough here this afternoon to turn the furnace off and open some doors and windows for a while. Only supposed to go down to 45 tonight. I guess the furnace won't be running much for a little while at least.
