Default Today's Pet Peeve 10 Feb '09

Sort of a continuation of yesterday's peeve; Inconsistencies in the workplace between managers. Do we all do what the first manager told us or go by the rules the second manager dictates to us, which tends to be nearly opposite what the first one said? I can be flexible, but I like consistency, too.

Policy Manuals are supposed to be a guide in the workplace for Owners, managers, and workers. It simplifies the day to day operations. Rather, it is supposed to. Any changes, before being implemented, are to be discussed for pros and cons between managers, department heads, and the like. It's a shame that this is not done consistently.

I worked for Federal Goverment and there are no such things as consistencies.

We were always being told how to do something different. When the work was wrong, did the manager take the blame....nooooooooooooooo

Life is the workplace is always a special topic. It’s just hard to imagine why there seems to always be a conflict between occupational and management. Both people want the same thing in the end ~ a good product or service for the customer, and yet it appears there are two ways to get there and for one reason or the other “it’s the boss” who puts the hammer down on things and nothing improves.

Consistencies,,,, I’ve always looked at the bottom line,,,,, is it good product and service for the customer? Then get out of my way because that’s what I do and that’s what I provide, when I fail to do that ~ fire me!

AMEN, AliceT!!! I used to have to answer to anyone at the other end of the satellite receiver when I was in a different fleet at my company; now I always answer to the same folks. MUCH better!

I ask every supervisor available, then follow the direction of the one that most lines up with how I wanted to do it in the first place.

Many workplaces do tend to have favoritism from one person to another. Sometimes those things are unintended, but it depends largely on the individual. And some bosses tend to be more lenient than others, or they try too hard to deal with some people on their level, or what they think is their level.

Always tell your boss that his boss wants it done differently and since he has the power to fire you, he's the one in charge! LOL!!!

You are so right though. It makes it hard on folks who are just trying to get the job done.

Oh yeah I can relate to that, at our company it's the pay scale, some managers give fair raises and some don't, it's all over the place, I was rated in the top 5 in our company but because my manager doesn't give out a decent raise I make the same as some of the lowest paid operators at our other plants, it's differant at each plant and it irritates me some.
