With this being a much better question,, you get a much better answer.
Now in my case, Mrs Aks will ask a question and I’ve got to ask her what the topic is because I have no idea what she is talking about. As in this example: ~ She will say – “how long does it take?” Answer – about 45 minutes to bake a cake, 2 hours to drive to Flagstaff, 30 minutes until the next show starts on tv, 65 years before you can collect SSN, 10 minutes to make a pot of coffee, etc, etc, etc,.,,,,, so what’s the topic of your question because I’ve got answers for most every issue?  Then she says “you know what I’m talking about.”? Reply – “no can you be more specific.”
It seems like a guy / girl thing more then just old men being defensive, grumpy or rude.
