Looks like we are all in agreement which should 'wipe' away any doubt!

My mother always made us put it on the roll so it rolls down next to the wall, rather than over the top, so that's how I do it now (our paper towels stand on their side though, but if they were on the wall they'd be hung the same as the toilet paper). I noticed that at work in our small employee-only bathroom most of my coworkers hang the toilet paper and towels like I do too (except the male employees who've always had a habit of using all the paper and not replacing the roll for some reason!).

Funny ! I always say that about the man that built our house (regarding bathrooms), he put three bathrooms inside and one in the garage - - and it's not a very big house! Someone wanted to make sure it was never too far to go to a bathroom !
I was really thankful for the garage bathroom once when my father in law was over - - He went into town with me, and on the way back had a bathroom emergency ! He said he could make it if I went fast! It looked like something out of Dukes of Hazard - I was flying up my dirt road, and slid sideways after hitting the brakes in front of my garage ! He made it though !!!! I think we were both a little embarrassed, but we joked about it later !

I look at the TP paper the same way I do the Hand Towels. The floral pattern on the towels says outward over the top. Otherwise the pattern is against the wall.

There ya go! Over the top is endorsed by the manufacturer! That says to me if it's not over the top it is not being used as directed. Don't go whining over any damages caused by misuse people.
(Refrigeration is still optional as far as I can tell )

At the eye dr's. office today and the TP holder is on the wall but only about 18 inches off of the floor and the TP comes off of the roll from the bottom near the wall. Try that position!!! Esp. if you are not the type that trys out the 'throne'. ...eeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkk.
