Talking The spoiled under-30 crowd.

If you are 30 or older you should enjoy this.

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...

uphill...barefoot...in the snow...

BOTH ways!!!

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a Utopia!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the library and look it up ourselves...in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! Oh, and stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, all of my teachers AND the parents of all my friends had permission to kick my butt! No where was safe!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record (yes, record...google it) store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talking just before the end and mess it all up!

There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone cause that's how we rolled, dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your Bookie, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your lazy butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel! There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little ingrates!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

Talking Pssss that's nothing

Back in my days, when I went to school, I had write with a chisel and pound it with a hammer in my stone tablet to take notes in class! When I drive my car, you had to run barefoot just to get it started. From a hard days of work working in the constructions, I had to wake up the elephants just to take a shower. Yabbba-dabba-doo!

OP, ain't that the truth. Just imagine what life will be like in the next 25-50 years. From womb to tomb without experiencing the good old fashioned lifestyle.

LOL I am not quite
30 yet but I still understand this one! My kids complain about their lives! Omgosh they do not know anything. My husband and I talked about this and decided not to spoil our kids! We think they need to learn how to work for things and take pride in what they earn! They do not have video games or even cable! (cable because we had to cut back) I make my kids play outside! I do not want them spoiled and think we have to give them everything!!

I don't know, I have a mixed reaction about this. Kids do have it easier than us nowadays but I think those little luxuries we didn't have in our younger days kinda served us well. We actually enjoy the perks of working to get it, and not just the end result. The process of working for what you want..I think that's important also. Coz the deep satisfaction you feel after you've accomplished something is like endorphins, and makes you sit up tall and feel good about yourself. When everything is handed to you, it just gets kinda boring and monotonous. And the false sense of entitlement is harmful too. I think it's important to earn the entitlement.

Very good - I love it!! I especially got a kick out of the "taping off the radio" part! I remember sitting next to the radio, finger on the Record button, ready to push at a moments notice - - and finally that song would come on - Yay! I remember recording a song once, and my Mom came in the room (now, remember, the tape recorder picked up ALL noise) and in this funny voice said "Boogie, boogie, boogie"! Whenver my friends and I listened to that song, you would hear "Boogie, boogie, boogie" in the middle of it, and then I would explain how it got there - we had many laughs from that!!

And yes, not having caller id sure made it easy to prank call, or call your crush and hang up, because you were to scared to talk (not that I ever did anything like that)!

Thanks for the extra smiles John1960!

ya know ever so often one of these " you have it easy" letter come out and about for the various age catagories. Saw one where they said "you have it easy you just get in the car and turn a key when I had my first car I had to set the choke get about out of the car and turn the crank hoping it would turn on." or some such thing to that toon.
Anyways, my general point is wonder what type of dibble the current 10 year olds will come up with for thier version of that same tirade in about 30 years?

Ican see it, 30 years from now, back in his day average people didn't have certain things... we were lucky if we had Ipods or MP3 players and GPS Navi in the cars. Why as kids we had to suffer with the Wii games. LMAO!

When I went to grade school I did walk uphill both ways. We weren't barefoot, though.

And while you are laughing consider this:

On my way to school every day I walked over a bridge. On the way home I walked over the same bridge. This bridge was in the form of an arch, so every morning I walked up one side and every afternoon I walked up the other.

Uphill both ways.
