I have a relative that is comparable to Friend A. His version of suffering is deciding that it may not be a wise move to buy that 6th vacation home, because "times are tough"!! What some of us would give to have tough times like that! He is actually a very nice guy and all, he just has always been wealthy and never wanted for anything. In a way, I am glad that I am part of the everyday people that have had good and bad times, because at least I won't be thinking my world has came to an end when I can't have a new vacation home!

I feel very fortunate to even have a home, and a few things that we have wanted. I have always felt that if you have a place to live and transportation, anything else is a bonus! So far we have been lucky that we have been able to hang on to our jobs and house, and I am thankful for that. But, if that were to fall apart, we have been through hard times before - - - we would survive!

You wouldn't know there was a recession by the packed full parking lots of restaurants around here.

A few points.....It's not just unemployment being the issue - tons of us are certainly still employed, but suffering budget cuts of all sorts. For anyone to imply that the economy is not "really" in trouble, is just insane. For every chain restaurant that is packed, a independent one is closing. (Plus, Americans just won't give up some things, I guess, especially the crud that is chain food.) "Just" 10% is unemployed?? And I posted it in SA, because I live there, and it applies to my life there. Next time, I'll just type, "In San Antonio..."

Agreed.. there are people who are suffering with jobs... there are a lot of insensitive beanheads running around thinking nothing of nothing.. The thing is.. if they were to feel the pinch.. their tune would change...
