I have definitely heard of the SeaBees because my grandfather was one! He was also stationed at Port Hueneme in 1942. He met another SeaBee there at Port Hueneme that would become his best friend during WWII. They continued to kept in contact with each other until he passed away several years ago. I remember my grandfather talking about all the times he and his buddy would often go into Hollywood when they had R&R and it sounded like they definitely partied hard! I also remember him talking about many of the special projects he used to work on in the various places he was stationed during the war. That was tough because he was away from my grandmother a lot during those times but he was very proud of his service in the SeaBees.

My father was in the CBs during World War II, his unit was CBMU-549, he was at Pearl Harbor, Kwajalein and Tarawa. His unit was the unit that was in the movie The Fighting CBs with John Wayne after they came back from overseas, I have an album full of pictures that he took while he was overseas and during the making of the movie. My sister and I are now putting together a book with all these pictures.I am a former Navy Seal, did two tours of duty in Vietnam between 1964-1966.
