I too learned how to type as a kid in a manual big honkin' Underwood, I mean the long carriage type. We had weekly book reports to do and we had to draw on the cover and cut it into a shape, with the pages following its shape. I used to write the synopsis onto a pad paper and my mother would take it to work and type my book reports there. Well, my dad said enough of that and brought home a used typewriter. Type your own book reports from now on. I was 8 years old and took forever to do a book report. With that many reports through school and then grad school, it's now second nature to me to type. I wish my kids would do it right but between text messaging on the cell phone and IM on the 'puter, can't break the bad hunt and peck habit now with them.
