We don't usually sit next to each other (and we've never sat on the same side of the table, only at a 90 degree angle from each other at a square table, if that makes sense), but if it's a large table, I hate feeling like I have to shout across it. I don't like people in a restaurant overhearing our conversation so sometimes we sit next to each other just so we can have a private converstion and actually hear one another! I imagine some couples who do sit on the same side of the table feel the same way. It's got nothing to do with insecurity, it's a shame people feel the need to make such presumptions about couples they don't even know.

You can tell a lot based on how ppl sit or gestures they make.

Good answer, Charley!

Sometimes.
Other times, people are just reading too much into it.

It's a sign of love and personal closeness that we still have after 37 years of marriage. If we have the choice we always sit next to each other.
If you really believe what you say you were never a Hippie. Take it from someone who was...

Two sides to every coin. I wish your side had been the better one...
To any of you just starting out in marriage or a relationship I give you this wish; one we always give to newlyweds.
May your marriage be as full of happiness and love as ours has been.
