Default Putting the VICE in Public Service

In honor of Public Service day lets post our best, good, bad or silly, stories about dealing with public servants.

I was going to renew my drivers license and went early to avoid the crowds. To my surprise I was the only person there. I went to the counter to conduct my business and was told to "take a number and sit and wait to be called". I went to the machine that gives numbers and received #1 I sat down and about the time my butt hit the seat I heard "#1" I started looking for the Candid Camera but I was still the only person there. My thinking is you have to follow procedure

The first thing that came to my mind was when I was standing in line at one of our local smaller post offices. The line was getting really long and there was only one lady helping people. There was a man sitting at a desk in the general area, not paying attention to the crowd. So, a lady in the line starts complaining and asks if maybe this other man could help some of the poeple in line........................ At this point the lady that was working says "Oh, him, he's not allowed to work!"

I couldn't help it, I had to laugh!! I don't think she had any idea how silly she sounded! I guess that's another instance of following procedure!

Many years ago when driving back to Alaska I crossed into Canada at a small border station. The customs insp asked me 5 or 6 questions. He then gave me the paperwork he wrote the answers on and told me to take it to immigrations. The insp there looked at the paper and then asked me the exact same questions. I was soooo tempted to give different answers.

A few Saturday's ago I sent a e-mail to our cities water dept. asking for historical data on my water usage. Much to my surprise, I got a response within a hour telling me I would have the info Monday morning.

And when I logged on Monday morning there was a e-mail with a spread sheet of my water usage.

Pretty good service.

ok I have to share a funny one that the women in the DMV shared with me while I was waiting for something one day and we got to chatting,

This guy came in to do a title transfer on his car he had sold the agent asked " is there a lien on the vehicle" the man replied " No mam I checked and all the tires are filled up so it doesn't lean"
rofl she said all of a sudden 2 of the agents had to go get something from the other room because they were about to split from trying not to laugh.

Putting the VICE in Public Service
Hmmm.. when you have the words Vice and Public Service in the same phrase or sentence, that can often be.... Vice Squad... in the red light district..

Sorry, I don't know why I thought of that...
