Karla....I hope that you got off to where ever you are going and that you have a great time. In the meanwhile.....It is summer and many of us are working in our yards and gardens. It causes me to wonder about the horticultural talents of our "? of the Day" gang and that leads to:

THE QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Do you have a green thumb?

Do you have any of the following, growing in your house or yard?

African Violet
Petunia
Geranium
Sun Flower
Tomato Plant

BONUS QUESTIONS:

Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower?

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay?

WORD OF THE DAY:

Friable: fri-a-ble
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French or Latin
From Latin friabilis, from friare "to curmble"
Date: 1563

Definition: Easily crumbled or pulverized
As in "friable soil"

On This Date:

1843 An alligator fell from the sky during a thunder storm in Charleston SC.

1916 Ken Curtis (Festus in Gun Smoke) was born.

1937 Polly Holiday ("Flo" from Alice) was born.

1937 Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared over Pacific Ocean attempting to make the first round the world flight at the equator.

1955 Lawrence Welk show premiers on ABC.

1966 73rd Women's Tennis, Wimbledon England, Billy Jean King beats Frasier

Thats it for today......tomorrow Alice T will be the "interviewer"! Take it away Alice.

Good morning Elston, thankyou for providing todays questions
THE QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Do you have a green thumb?
Not like my grandmother she had a huge garden and new all of the botanical names for every plant. I wish I had have listened to her talking about them now that she is gone and I can't ask anymore . I have a few pot plants around the house and some outside but I live in an apartment so no garden anymore.

BONUS QUESTIONS:

Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower? No not really, in my last house I had a grapefruit tree that I particularly liked and a huge Maiden Hair fern that I really hope the next person to live there is looking after.

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay? I don't have a particular aversion to them but I don't have any myself.

Woo Hoo Elston !!
Great job
See I hinted we may have a guest poster !!!
Got up really really early so guess what I have time to answer your questions before we head out at 6:30 to drop the dogs off and head to the airport

I am pretty much packed except for my shoes and the toiletry stuff I need to shower before leaving

See you all on Monday

THE QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Do you have a green thumb?

Yes , though I never would of guessed this years ago

Do you have any of the following, growing in your house or yard?
We are limited in the flowers we can grow down here because of the heat
Geranium - yes but now it is in the shade
Tomato Plant - just took our out "mater season" here is pretty much over by mid june
When I was out hand watering the potted stuff in the screenroom and garden yesterday I realized I am on plant overload and have decided I am now on a "self imposed plant buying ban"

BONUS QUESTIONS:

Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower?

Not so much flowers put I have special fruit trees
grapefruit & orange trees that we bought with some of the wedding gifts from hubbys side of the family
We also have 2 peach trees that we planted in memory of our 2 greyhounds last we lost in the past year

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay?
Well I have 2 no 3 lol forgot the one in the guest bathroom silk arrangement's and still trying to figure out a successful way to dust these

Outstanding job elston! I knew you could do it.

Do you have a green thumb? Not as much as when I lived in FL, but better than some.

Do you have any of the following, growing in your house or yard?
African Violet No
Petunia No
Geranium No
Sun Flower No
Tomato Plant Several

Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower? Sun flowers. In his infinite wisdom, my dad introduced me to gardening with sun flowers. Easy to plant, HUGE results and produces seeds that my pet parakeet would eat. It worked - I was hooked.

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay? Yea.

Do you have a green thumb?
I think so, I've gardened for years. My parents raised me that way, and then I married a landscape architect. But moving from Colorado to Florida has been a new challenge for both me and my husband.

Do you have any of the following, growing in your house or yard?
Yes. I bolded the ones we have.
I'm not crazy about geraniums or African violets.
African Violet
Petunia White wave cascading
Geranium
Sun Flower Toppling over, but lovely while it lasted
Tomato Plant Going strong and producing, but my first ones drowned after a week of rain

Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower?
This might sound weird, but I have always had an attachment to ferns.
I was a little kid in northern California, we had a backyard full of ferns.
I love their 'green' scent and their structure, so primitive and intricate at the same time. I've been able to indulge this attachment here.

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay?
Mostly nay, but not totally.
I've seen some lovely silk orchids, but so far I have not bought any.

GOOD MORNING ELSTON....AND EVERYONE!!

THE QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Do you have a green thumb?
Well I like to believe I do....I guess it depends on whose definition of what a green thumb is....
I love gardening it is my favorite thing to do. http://s17.rimg.info/018dda1de00604ca8ad6027b6157eae4.gif (broken link)
A while back I bought this poor fern for my deck on the clearance table...thought what the heck, the price is right... and I love the challenge of being able to bring something like that back to life....
Anyway I brought it home and babied it by cutting back the dead growth off of it, gave it some miracle grow and kissed it a few times (j/k), today it is huge and beautiful plant.... you know everything grows with a little love!!

Do you have any of the following, growing in your house or yard?
African Violet..no
Petunia...yes
Geranium...yes
Sun Flower...no
Tomato Plant...yes
Hey, what do ya know, 3 out of 5 ain't bad....guess I do have a green thumb.

BONUS QUESTIONS:
Do you have sentimental attachment or association to a particular flower?
Yes, tulips.

Silk or Artificial Flowers....Yea or Nay?
With me it depends on the use of them....
Yay, with using them in my crafts, and
Nay, to have them sitting in a vase or something all around the house inside or out!! I have enough dust collectors to try and keep the dust off of....

On This Date:

1843 An alligator fell from the sky during a thunder storm in Charleston SC.........OK, how did that alligator get into the sky to fall out of it........is my question???

Thats it for today......tomorrow Alice T will be the "interviewer"! Take it away Alice.

Thank you, elston.....wonderful job!!!

Have a crazy, fun day....everyone!

I hear ya....elston!!
You know this year weather has been the strangest thing!!
Trying to get my veggie garden and flowers going has really been a challenge and discouraging.

The thunder storms and the down pour of rain and then the next day it's hot in the 90's, then the following day comes the thunder storms again, temperatures dropping about 40 degrees....the poor plants really don't know what to do....cold, warm, cold, warm.
This year I have had more problems with growing my gardens, it's unbelievable!!
