Default Annoying Neighbor

A few months back my neighbors tranny burned up due to his neglect. He has had no transportation so i have picked up groceries for him now & then. I even went out of my way a few times. I dont mind helping out a neighbor. A few times he has given me a few xtra bucks but he has bitched a few times that i didnt get the right product. Im barely working but i think he thinks im his personel shopper/taxi now. He called me yesterday & said he needs a ride to the store to get a watermelon & he dont want to walk the 2 miles roundtrip. Today were suppose to go to a picnic & im leaving early without him. He has spent $30.00 on razors, $10.00 on mouth wash & gave another neighbor $20.00 just to help her out even though she has a income & her dad who lives with her does as well. He knows im having a rough time & he could of given me the 20 bucks or any amount. Ive had it with his guy. When we went shopping a footlong sub was on sale for $5.00 & he wanted to store to make him a fresh one with no mustard for $5.00. They said if he wants a sub made it will cost him more. The 5 dollar subs only applied to pre-made subs. He took a fit with the mgr & embarassed me. He also talks to total strangers in the supermarkets (starts conversations) & expects the employees to jump to his every need. He made a comment to me that im a push over & then took it back. Im a nice guy & like to help out my neighbors. This guy is not going to use me for now on. If he wants groceries or a ride it will be .41 cents a mile (wear, tear, gas) & $10.00 a hour with a min of 1 hours time. The store is only a mile away so i would just charge him just a few bucks or so. I have been taken advantage of before & you think i would learn from that. Well...now i have.

I believe the IRS approved rate is 50.5 cents per mile for the wear & tear on your car.

That is what my company pays us when we have to use our car.

Sounds like you're a nice guy who is trying to help someone out. How unfortunate that you are being taken for granted.

Kudos for you!

There are those who appreciate good deeds.
There are those that want to take advantage of good hearted people .
Sounds like your neighbor might fit in the latter group.

Yeah, I fell into that trap, myself. I became a family's personal chauffeur and errand girl. This family had no car at all and no licensed drivers in the house. They would call and politely ask if I was busy. Didn't matter what I said - I could have said I was re roofing my house and they would have said, that's nice - Hey, we need some pepto for one of the kids, do you have any or could you take one of the boys up to the store to get some?

For starters, I can't imagine having children and not having a very well stocked first aid kit - including pepto.

Second, if I had any to spare, I would not give it away, unless I were to send over a little dixie cup with one capful in it for one dose to hold them over until they could get their own.

Third, if YOU need something, then YOU get in the car with me to go get it - don't send your teen boy that just wants to get out of the house at my expense. I would rather go alone than take your teenaged kid with me!

I tried to train the people to plan ahead, to think ahead. I would call and say I was going to the store - did they need anything. Without so much as asking another person anything, they would off the cuff say no, they had everything they needed. Then, the following day, sure enough, they would call and say they needed something. I took that opportunity to tell them I am sorry, i went to the store yesterday and you should have known YESTERDAY when I ASKED, that you would need this something TODAY.

I later found out that they always called me instead of someone else in the neighborhood because everyone else charged them $5 per trip to the nearest hillbilly market and $10 per trip to any other store - plus gas. I was able to break it off when I went out of town for an ectended vacation and when I came back, I put the monetary compensation rule into effect. Instead of paying me, they sent one of the kids to get a license and then bought a second hand car.

A few times i did tell this guy that im going to the store & do you want something. He said No & then a few days later (like yesterday) he wants something from the store. Once he wanted me to take him to over priced trader joes which is about 10 miles away (one way) & give me a lousey 5 bucks for gas. I said "no" & he says its only 10 miles. I said what about wear/tear on my car & my time & he just mumbled. He just gave his brother $500.00 that he owed him & hes also painting part of his home.

My car gets 14/20 & i dont believe after today were going to be friends anymore. Hes expecting me to take him to the picnic. Hes always preaching to me & others & says all sinners are going to hell. Hes a born again christian & im not & never will be. He once saw a pretty woman in a bikini at the pool & said she was a sinner. Hes also a major back seat driver & trys to tell me what food & gas i should buy.

SIGH....anyways. I think ill go park my car where he cant see it that way he wont know im home. Im leaving at 1:30 pm today for free burgers, hot dogs, potato salad & everything a picnic consists of. If he wasnt so annoying i would bring him. He has 3 brothers & they live nearby. They can pick him up & take him to there home. I just hope he dont show up at the picnic which is a few miles away.

He just should not of said i was a push over. You can NEVER take back what you say. My life is already a mess & i dont appreciate his comments. People should ALWAYS be careful with there words. It has been quite a few yrs since i last attended a 4th of july picnic & i know this guy will ruin it for me ( and others).

Today i just want to have a good meal, conversation & not hear this guy complain about everything & anything. He thinks obama is the devil & the govt has taped our phone lines & are spying on us. Im just not in the mood for his bs.

Here's a tip: From people who are genuinely born again Christians, there is no complaining - just praise for every little thing. Those who complain about everyone and everything are pledging their allegiance to the other side.

Trying using the word NO when your neighbor asks you to do them a favor it works wonders.

Do as I do. Cultivate a standoffish relationship with your neighbors. They don't ask me for favors and I don't ask them.

Makes for better neighbors.

I have done that before yet they still came a knocking. I just dont answer the door & they leave. Another neighbor of mine is getting divorced so he thought he would tell me his problems. I said " bob, i have my own problems & mine are much worse then yours". Needless to say he ignores me now....Thank goodness. I leaving in a 1/2 hr & when the "user" sees my car is gone im sure he will get the hint.
