Question So...why didn't you comment???

looking at different threads only 1 out of every 5 and sometimes 1 out of every 10 views does someone comment!

Just out of curiosity what either prevents you from commenting or inspires you to comment?

Comments welcome please.....

Often, somebody's already said what I was going to say, and so i have nothing to add to the discussion.

Two reasons I may not comment on every thread. One being I dont spend enough time in here to read every topic. Two, sometimes its better to not say what I want to say on specific topics.

Reasons that I do comment:

I find the conversation interesting.
People that I know and like are commenting.
I feel that I have something relevant/interesting/useful/amusing to add to the conversation.

Reasons I do not comment:

The topic is one about which I am not knowledgeable.
The topic is inane.
The topic is one that belongs in a different forum (e.g. Food & Drink, Entertainment, etc.)
The conversation has already degenerated into sniping or outright flames.

I am also very put off by certain abbreviations in thread titles, to the extent that I won't even look at the thread if the originator uses the abbreviation "u" for the word you. That, however, is because I am a word nerd and a rabid grammarian, and I intensely dislike what feels like the dumbing-down of our language. I fully recognize that I am a vanishing-small minority in that feeling, and I have absolutely no expectation that everyone in the world will change the way they write to suit me - but I choose not to encourage it by participating in threads with that kind of egregious shortcut in the title. An honest spelling or grammatical error is understandable, but intentional shortcuts just irritate the heck out of me.

Sometimes I just like to look and don't feel I have anything to contribute to the topic. Or the topic doesn't interest me, but the title did enough to look or lurk!!

I either don't comment on other threads because it either doesn't interest me, someone has already said the same thing I would have, or I would be barred from the site due to the fact that what I have to say should be censored.
