What Are Some Of The Signs That You Are Getting Older?
Sorry guys this one isn't a joke but a revelation, lol. I used to think that a sign of aging was older people always talked about Doctor's appointments and medications. Well my DH and I are finally there. We have crossed over into what I used to consider an "old age" thing.
Two weeks ago my DH had his first colonoscopy. Results are all good. Yesterday we both went to our Doctor for a full blood work up(we do everything together, except the colonoscopy, lol). Today we stopped in for our results. We were told to both go back because our Doctor wanted to talk to us. Uh oh. I felt like a bad kid going to the principle's office, lol. Nothing terrible but I have to change my thyroid medication, at least I know why I've been so exhausted lately. And my DH has high cholesterol and she wants him to change his diet. She doesn't believe in cholesterol medication "unless" you have other issues and my DH doesn't. I believe her because she won't even put her mother on them. Oh yeah and she "likes' her mother.
So now tomorrow I have to go and get a new prescription and also pick up Osteo Biflex for my knees because they creak.
So I finally have to admit that I am aging and although I don't mind it, even find it amusing at times, it is different.
So what are the signs that you are getting older?

Spouse and I are early-mid 50s.
Appearance
We're both fat, but that's been true for decades. I've begun sprouting some grey over my temples. Spouse's hair is silver-white and has been since he was in his twenties. Our son's fraternity brother earned spouse's undying enmity (and my eternal gratification) by asking if spouse was a cradle robber; he's all of 16 months older than I.
Skeletal
I've had an artificial hip since I was 39, spouse is probably heading toward getting one and possibly both knees replaced in the next few years, and I've got a knee that may go that way in another decade. And the artificial hip will need a "lube job" (orthopedic surgeon's description, not mine) in the next couple of years.
Cardiovascular
Spouse has been on high blood pressure medication for about a decade. It's pretty well controlled, not perfect. Nothing for me yet.
Endocrine
Spouse diagnosed with Type II diabetes about five years ago. Again, well controlled, but takes management.
Gastro-Intestinal
Spouse had his first colonoscopy a few years ago, mine's next. I've been on acid-tamers (first Ranitidine, now Prilosec) for a long time, a legacy of the decade or so before the hip replacement when I was gulping 6 Ibuprofen every four hours around the clock. Spouse controls his reflux with OTC Ranitidine.
Cognitive:
This is the one that scares me most. I watched my father transform from a brilliant, vibrant, caring, empathetic man into a drooling, incontinent lump as a result of multi-infarct dementia, which is a highly heritable condition. I've given my spouse and offspring strict instructions that if I start showing signs of going down the same path, they are to take me out back with a pistol and put me out of my misery.

Anymore, whenever I sit down in the recliner to watch a TV show, I usually fall asleep. This even happens when a really good show I've been looking forward to comes on. That never used to happen to me.
Gray hair....if I didn't color my hair every few weeks, I'd be almost completely gray.
I've worn eyeglasses for 20 years. The past few years, I've needed bifocals but I refuse to get them. Instead, I just take my glasses OFF when I have to read something up close...lol

Needing glasses or if you already have glasses, need bifocals.
The thought of staying home and watching tb sounds much better than going out to party.
Can't stay awake at night as long as you use to.
Gray hairs.
You do not have the stamina or abilty to do real physical things as good as you use to.
You really know you are getting old when you start reading the Obituaries in the newspaper!
