Yes, they do. If you live in an area that has ditchweed and pay attention when it goes to seed you will see the plants literally covered with birds, mostly finches. Some of those seeds they gobble down get through their digestive systems intact enough to germinate. If you know enough about Marijuana, you know that if you decide to grow some an intelligent thing to do is lightly sandpaper the seeds before planting to break the outer, hard shell. This will give a higher germination rate because the shell is easier to crack open from the inside. The path through all those finches accomplishes the same job as the sandpaper.
So when they poop out the seeds in your yard they germinate.
