I have one, but I don't go into panic mode if I forget it and leave home without it. I also don't need the latest feature filled iphone, I use my cell for phone calls and the occasional text, I'm not launching satellites into space with it and if I want to take pictures I have a camera that takes better ones than my phone. I find that using too many features on the phone only drains the battery quicker anyway. I don't need one that holds music, records videos, surfs the net etc. I never had one up until about three years ago. I like the convenience of it (beats roaming the streets looking for a pay phone that works), but sometimes it's too convenient for people to reach me 24/7. Most times I let my voicemail answer and call back later.

I've gotta respond to this, because my wife works at a busy sandwich shop and gets po'd when customers, after standing in line for awhile, reach the order counter but continue to talk on their phone instead of giving her their order. She'll count to 5 under her breath, then ask the people behind them if they are ready to order. It's not fair to keep everyone else who's in line behind them to wait.

I've had a cell phone since the first bag phones came out... 25 years anyway. I treat my latest little cell phone just like I did the first ones -- on when I need it, off when I don't.
I run my one-person business from home, so when I go out, whether it's for an in-town errand or a two-week vacation, I forward my office calls to the cell phone and take it with me. I can handle most business calls without the client even knowing I'm not in the office. I use a bluetooth hands-free device in the car, so all it takes is a push of the button on the visor and I'm connected. It makes it easier to leave the office, and I don't have to pay an answering service. When office hours end, the phone goes off.
We also use it for long-distance calls so we don't have to pay toll charges on our wired phone. The problem with that is, the people I call use my cell number to call me back. And sometimes I'll go for a week and never turn it back on.
Generally speaking, I have mixed feelings about cell phones. They're very handy, but people need to learn to turn the damned things off at times.

I love my cell phone. On the rare occasions I forget it, I feel naked without it.
I can't imagine life without a cell phone anymore.
I sometimes think about all the new electronic gadgets that have come into our lives since 1984 when my Mom passed away. I have a feeling she would love having a cell phone, a iPod but I think the Internet would overwhelm her...LOL

I have to have that friggen noose tied around my neck for business.. I feel like I can't even take a dump without it going off.
Unless it's really important, most of the time when I talk to family I do it through emails. I'll usually throw in a phone call every now and then, but my main cell is off-limits unless it's an emergency.
I do have a second cell phone, but I use it as a home phone. Cells have gotten so much cheaper now that I think they are less expensive than getting a land line.. Everyone knows this, so they know not to expect a call back until I'm home - it just saves a lot of headache.
I hate those people who stand at the counter, counting change and arguing on their phone.. I don't ever want to be one of those people. If I get a business call, I quickly excuse myself and step outside. I think that if more people did that, cell phones would get a better rap.
And texting? Hell, don't even get me started on that...
But again, that's just me...

My cellphone has helped me out in numerous situations.
My parents are getting up in years and I am the point of contact with both.
When my husband had his motorcycle accident, they were able to get ahold of me right after the 911 call instead of having to call home, then work.
I'm not one of those that has to be on it 24/7. If I'm talking to someone and it rings, I look to see who's calling and 9 times out of 10 I'll send the call to voice mail.
Let's just say I lose more minutes in my roll over account than I use.
I use it for all my long distance calls.
I have the basic phone line at home. With a diabetic in the house it's a comfort to know that your home address will show up if I have to call 911.
But it's here to stay.

I have a simple pay as you go Tracphone. It costs me about one hundred dollars a year. I use it very infrequently, but it's invaluable in emergencies. I think of it as a one hundred dollar/year helpline.

If you are with other people, I frankly would prefer that you leave the room to carry on that conversation. Answering phones at the dinner table, or anywhere while with others, I just think is rude. Either excuse yourself and leave the room, or return the call later. Just my opinion, obviously.

I never take a call when I'm with someone else. Actually, there's one caveat to that...if I'm expecting a critical call, I will apologize to the person in advance that I'm expecting it--something that happens in a blue moon. But, again, when I'm having a conversation in a restaurant, I'm hardly shouting. To me, it's the same rule as if I'm having a conversation with a companion. If it's getting loud, that's one thing.
