In the event that you are selling something, someone who knows you thinks they are entitled to one of what you are selling at a lower price because they know you.

My husband deals with this quite a lot in his business. Because he works for himself people always try to "work out a deal", and I think he gives in more often than he should. Yet he's become resentful of it.

When he ran a computer store, at first his siblings all started foaming at the mouth with excitement over the possibility of getting computer stuff for next to nothing. Didn't turn out that way (and family can be the worst to expect something for nothing at every opportunity). He also had a lot of schools solicit him for donations of computers, which he flat refused, and other organizations that wanted the same.

This is why my prices go up if I know the person. They go up quadruple if the person is family.

It's only human nature for this to happen. Turning this inside out, most of us have probably gotten something from someone as a favor or act of kindness without asking for it first.
Darn that first person who started this anyway huh......

It's not right. The price remains the same for anyone, and if they want to argue that is should go lower because they are friends/family or what-have-you, I don't bother with them. I move on and find somebody else who is willing to buy the item at the actual price it is.
