Hi everyone, i just want to post this, because i almost got into an accident, for a negligent driver who was talking on the cell phone, i know they're not supouse to talk on the phone, but irresponsable people keep doing it. I came from NY and over there is law not to talk on the cell phone while you are driving, if they catch you you will get a BIG fine for it. But it seem's over here is not the same, people doesn't care about. Why they don't understand that is dangerous to do two or more things at the same time while you are driving. And was it was worse, that driver that force me to go to the sidewalk because his driving, he was upset, when at the begining was his own fault. That really make me upset.

Well what can I tell ya irin/OP, some people just have a big stamped S on their forehead (starts with S and ends with a pronounced D as in that "duh" look on their face). At least you don't belong in that category.

Yup they're idiots! Last spring when walking home from the bus stop, my son was almost hit by a cellphone user trying to drive. I saw it through my living room window. If you are a parent or not, you can imagine my panic.

Even better...when they text. You can see them, they're all over the road. Love it. Here in Florida, the legislators decided not to even suggest making it illegal because "it's impossible to enforce." Uh huh.

Default heck they run into you when walking.....

OH I saw plenty of accidents caused by them when I was on rescue.
And it irks me when I'm shopping for example people can't put the dang thing down long enough to check out...I could go on but...

I have had people run me off the road while using cell phones. It almost angers me enough to want to run them down in the street. And I am not typically that upset by stupid driving stunts. It actually angered me so much when a woman forced me off the road, that at the next stop sign I got out of my vehicle and was going to yank her out of hers by her throat. She managed to get away Wouldn't have been the right thing to do, but these people are actually getting to be more dangerous than drunk drivers. If you want to text or talk while driving, just put a gun to your head and spare the rest of us. Another person, especially a child shouldn't have to die because you had to get the latest word from your friend. What did people do before cell phones??????? Even if someone in my family dies, the news will wait till I get home, they'll still be just as dead when I get there. Telling me while I'm driving may get me killed too.
Sorry for the rant!

If I get a call on the cell phone while I'm driving, I do one of two things:

1 - Pull over to the side of the road and stop, and talk.
2- If it's not possible to stop on the side of the road, I push a button on the side, and it'll automatically take the caller to my voice mail.

Even on a highway without any traffic, I never drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time. I am good at multi-tasking, but I still wouldn't talk on the cell phone and drive at the same time - I don't care how good you are at multi-tasking, you can't predict what will happen while driving, so you have to be able to respond instantly, especially if you're going at speeds above 30 MPH. If you're on the cell phone and going at 60 MPH, and something happens, it'll take you longer to respond to the situation, and a split second in response time will make the difference between preventing an accident, and being involved in one.

Sounds just as bad as here in Perth, Australia. We've got a law against using your cell phone while driving too, but you'd never know it. I see them all the time. And they're so blatant and obvious about it too. I guess that comes about from knowing you've got a miniscule chance of ever getting caught.

Texting while driving is completely idiotic. There's no way you can keep your attention on anything else while doing that. Even walking! People texting while they're meandering along the sidewalks, as if they were drunk. Why not step aside so the rest of us can get to where we're going without bumping into you?

It's a huge epidemic and only going to get worse! Between people yakking (and I'm sure every one of those calls is very important) and texting....more and more accidents are being contributed to the use of the phones/blackberries. Here in Tx., a young 23 yr old woman was just found guilty yesterday, of causing the death of another young person, because she was distracted by her phone. First she denied being on the phone, but of course, her cell phone records proved her wrong. She made of those wonderful 3 lane changes in order not to miss her exit. She could have faced up to 10 yrs in jail...but got 30 days in jail, an indefinate suspension of her license,750 hr community work ,must pay the family for the funeral, and a $10,000 fine. Both she and her family still deny any wrong doing!
