Bizarre story. I heard about this on the news this morning. It just seems really weird that raccoons would "maul" someone! I can see being bit by a raccoon but being attacked by a pack of them seems really strange.

Maybe someone else was feeding them elsewhere and they became demanding of humans?

on gma it was mentioned that the woman got too close to the racoon babies and the parents were protecting them----racoons do give a type of growling warning and take a stance before they attack----wonder why she didn't notice that

Not knowing her knowledge of wildlife it is hard to say if she understood the dangers. But anytime young are involved you need to be extra careful. People should let them go on their merry way or call for professional help with all wildlife even if in the city. This incident happened close to where I live and I know that there are a lot of wild critters that call the cities home too.

They carry rabies and people shouldn't get around them at all.....even to shoo them off. Poor lady.
