Hmmm... I'm on a low-calorie diet, so my thoughts will have to be low-cal also...

4-day weekend, putting up my Christmas lights outside, and Christmas tree, wash my SUV, and my truck, vacuum the carpet, do yard work, fix my computer.. Oh wait, I think I got carried away..

Whenever the holiday season comes, one of the things I think about is my niece and my nephew. My niece was born on December 25th, 1982, and my nephew was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1991, so his birthday will fall on Thanksgiving Day every 6 years. They're both best holiday gifts we've ever gotten.

Thanksgiving thoughts, hum....let's see...I guess I'm mostly thinking about all the great home-cooked food I'll be eating! My sister is going to be doing the majority of the cooking this year and besides my grandmother, she's the best cook in the family so I'm looking forward to that. I don't cook, so home-cooked meals are a rare treat for me...yummy!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the whole extended family! My side of the family!

& every year we buy the Beaujolais Nouveau wine~it's one of the. Thanksgiving traditions.

even my eldest sister~who was into that whole Boycott France thing~would want me to buy the Beaujolais Nouveau~so she wouldn't have to.

Some years, it really is mouth puckering though!

I love cooking and eating at Thanksgiving, of course - who doesn't?! - but what I really love the most is the intensely satisfying feeling of gathering beloved family and friends to break bread together. We nearly always have the meal at our home, even though our house is a tiny little bungalow barely big enough for the two of us, and it's always an exercise in creativity to fit ten or a dozen people around our compact kitchen table without actually having anyone sit in anyone else's lap.

Holiday gatherings at our place are always full of teasing, food, joking, intense conversation, laughter, games, and plenty of hugs. I always sense a certain undercurrent of sadness, too, as we remember those who are no longer at the table with us, but that is ameliorated by the warmth of our memories about them. There are certain stock comments, statements and phrases that were first established as Thanksgiving traditions decades ago by loved ones long gone now, but those traditional words are still spoken every year, as a way of bringing them back to the table with us.

And besides, it's my annual opportunity to make half a dozen different pies, which is a real highlight of my year!
