Maybe it's still there, just invisible?

I have invisible days at my mother-in-law's. Whenever it's just me and my husband, my sister-in-law will talk to us like she's our best friend, but if anybody else walks into the room (other brother/sisters-in-law), she'll literally cut us off in mid-sentence and go huddle with them. My husband will say things like "Oh, no, don't worry, I wasn't just talking to you or anything...". Then if they leave, we're her best friends again....so now, we make her invisible.

Some of the bars down here, that I go to, I feel like I'm invisible the moment I walk in. The bartender sees me come in and I can't order a drink or something until 5-10 minutes later. I hate that. That happened the last time I went out, about 2 weeks ago. She was such a ***** anyway. She saw me come in and decided to go smoke a cigarette while I just sat there. Well, fortunately, another bartender took my order. I'll make sure to not have HER as my bartender anymore (or don't go there when she's there working). Terrible service when she's there.

Hi,
I hear what you're saying loud and clear, noplacelikeWA, and I am here to validate your feelings. I have felt invisible my entire life. It has been the biggest hurdle in my life.. keeping me from satisfactory relationships (amorous as well as social) and success in my job.
The first few times it happened, I literally couldn't believe it. In my mind, I was using proper tone and volume; yet, it was like I was literally not there. After I got over the surprise of being ignored, I became annoyed and then frustration set in. It wasn't long before I became depressed over it and started to feel anxious in social settings. It has crippled me, and I now obsess over it. I'm so accustomed to being ignored in social settings that I am genuinely surprised when people do pay me attention.
The thing is I thought I was alone. I had never encountered anyone with the same problem until I started looking around on the Internet recently, and that's when I came across your thread.
I was disappointed that far from validating your experience, the other responders actually wished to be invisible. If only they knew the pain of being invisible and how it totally devastates your life, they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy.
Don't get me wrong, others... I am not trying to invalidate your feelings... I can understand from an intellectual point of view how your lives may be so busy that you might want to be invisible from time to time, but try to imagine always being ignored by others. You miss out on opportunities to get to know others and forge deeper relationships with them. As a result, you never get into romantic relationships and experience the rewards of life.
Being invisible from time to time could definitely have its perks, but being invisible all the time absolutely sucks.

My apologies to all... I "spoke" a little prematurely. I missed all the pages between 1 and 4. I promise I will take the time to read them, though.

Let me explain, you know when your in a conversation with someone and they aren't making eye contact with you and they just knod once in awhile barely acknowledging that your talking, or midway through your sentence they get up and walk across the room to do something completely random, or they just start talking about something else all together. Another unfortunate side effect of being invisible happens when you ask someone to help with a task or to do something but for some reason they don't totally listen and then end up doing it all wrong. How about leaving voice mails for someone and they refuse to even call you back or for that matter emails that never get replied to. I just want to be heard and for the people I am talking to to actually listen! I'm sure I can't be the only person out there that feels invisible?

I get that too sometimes. I hate it when people treat you like noise. When I was younger it used to bother me. Now I say frip em. If they dont want to act right then I got better things to do. Like torture the cat with his laser mouse.
Seriously. Why you wanna hang out with peeps who are mean to you. Time for some new peeps. Maybe a cat or two?
