I am considering including this poem in our Christmas cards to the family members as we lost my MIL just before Thanksgiving. I have seen this on plaques and cards but haven't found who wrote it.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly.
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone,
for part of us went with you
the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the Chain will link again.

It is a very nice poem. Sorry for your loss. My MIL was great in every way and sorely missed also.

My name is Ron Tranmer and I wrote "The Broken Chain" some years ago at the passing of a young woman in our family. Copies were passed out at her funeral.
I'm happy that it is bringing peace and happiness to many, as it did and has our family. I'm a bit disappointed that my name as the author is not included.

I shared it on a web site some time ago, and gave permission for it to be copied and used, but I feel I should have credit for it's writing.

I realize there are probably many waco's out there who claim authorship for stories, poems, and books. I am not one of them.

A copy of the full poem is below.
If you'd like to talk to me about it you can e-mail or call me at:

We little knew the day that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to loose you
But in God we put all trust.
In times as difficult as this
Faith is such a must.

You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again.

Mr. Tranmer has a beautiful site of memorial poems to assist the bereaved....his poem....the broken chain is included there and has been used on many other sites and commercial enterprises.....it is sometimes appropriately attributed to him. http://hubpages.com/hub/Verses-For-Memorial-Cards--Poems-For-Funerals (broken link) His sharing of his talents and insights must have helped many people. Thank You Mr. Tranmer.

A sparrow enters the tree
Whereon immediately
A snow-lump thrice his own slight size
Descends on him and showers his head and eyes.
