CD Men vs IRL Men?
Why is this?
I work in the manworld every day. Most of my co-workers are intelligent educated males. I have great respect for them and their abilities. I'm not trying to bash anyone, I'm very curious.
In my real world, a meaningful conversation is usually a series of grunts. Followed by some mumbled incoherent noises. If I get an email, I wonder if I have to download language characters to translate the message. I wander by the coffee machine and see groups of men who seem to be talking about sports, fantasy football, computers, or hunting. Pick one!
Then I check in here. The men are so different, it amazes me. They are articulate, and have well thought out opinions on socially relevant issues. They even comment on things like relationships and books. Where are you men IRL? Where do you hide? You are interesting, witty, funny, and bright. Are you real? Some of you are single and LIKE women. Do you come here to avoid the 50 women lined up to date you?
I've been debating this with a friend all week. We can't come up with a logical answer. I've been a product of my environment. I've been too quick to judge and I was wrong. I owe manworld an apology. Thanks for educating me. I need to find some CD men IRL!

Well I for one don't hang out at the water cooler. I prefer the company of women vs men. We just don't have many women here at work. Maybe thats why when I go home, I tend to steer around "hangin with the guys", and will bring a dozen roses to the pretty bar maid that works up the street. She will talk to me all day long! I don't know how to answer your question really. There are some great guys I know that have no idea this site exsists! And there are some that do! Same goes for women...there are some wonderfull ladies that visit here. How come thay all live 3 to 5 thousand miles from me? Ain't life strange sometimes...

Even though I'm going to college for computer science that topic is usually the last one from my mind when I start a conversation. It's not until someone else brings it up that the whole conversation goes down the garbage disposal. I mean yeah that's going to be my future job, but why in the world do I want to talk about it now. I rather talk about motorcycles, video games, road trips, California. Stuff like that.
I wouldn't mind fifty women lined up to date me. Heck, I wouldn't even mind one! I'm just no so lucky.
And like Rance said. Even though where I live there are plenty of ladies, it just seems like the ones I like don't live anywhere near me. Which is why I'm moving! Find somewhere I can find some ladies! =D

Well, one, we do have to assume some on CD are just putting on a front. Even though there is no reason to do so...we know that most likely we will never meet any of these people-maybe that's why they do it. To seem better than they are actually IRL.
Also, IRL, s e x will come into the equation. Sometimes some men talk with a different agenda, or only are thinking with one part...on here, we don't have to worry about that too much because in 99.9% of the cases, no one on CD is going to be giving anyone any. At least I think not!
Or maybe, on CD, since there's no pressure from any source...this is who they actually are. But IRL, they are wondering if someone is thinking they're attractive enough, are they witty, nerdy...do I have something stuck in my teeth, will I get laid tonight...and it might mess up the conversation.

yellowsnow,,,this reminds me of another thread,,,that a woman said her workplace was a bit dull and boring,,
men have been verbally neutered in the workplace of even joking around with a woman,, i'll hear a lady,,say "oh i like to joke around, i wont get offended"
however,,,in most companies,,,it is mandatory to do some sexual harrassment/culture training,,,workshops,,,,usually conducted by at least one lesbian,,,who absolutely hates men,,
so, by the time a guy leaves that training workshop,,,,and the big bosses,,tell us "this chit is real, watch every word you say to a woman, cause i can get sue'd" well no wonder,,,a guy doesnt joke around anymore,
remember,,its not what a guy says,,its how its INTERPRETED....so, we play it safe,,and joke amongst ourselves...
not that we dont like/adore woman,,and enjoy thier input or company,,,its just , easier with ,,other guys,,we dont have to filter,,what we say,,
so, in a large part,,this is the result,,or a p.c. workplace,
yellow,,also keep in mind,,its much easier to "talk" on here,,,,can say ,,,much of what we want,,no worries of getting slapped,,,

Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde
I am a different person depending on whether or not I'm in a group of men, women, or a mixed crowd.
Think about it. If I'm in a group of men I'm not talking about gardening or the nice dress one of them is wearing (well, not usually anyway - depends on the crowd). With women I'm not likely to be going on about how to fix the lawnmower or the furnace.
In a mixed crowd it all depends on the mix in the group and the interests of others. If you talk about it I'll usually have something to say. Except for sports. I know, unusual for a man, but that's a whole other story that started when I was four years old. I don't talk politics with anyone except my wife. Period.
Oddly enough my wife can carry a sports conversation better than I can so I just kick back and let her have at it.
