It's computers, email, texting etc... where peole get sloppy and don't think it matters. Look at all the abbreviations that are used. This can very quickly become a habit - I catch myself all the time - even overlooking mispellings that I would never have done so before.

I think I'm just good enough a speller to catch a lot of errors in spelling. I may have been a good proof reader. But, I'm still thankful for spell check.

it's one thing to be wrong on a forum.. but i see so much wrong info on web sites, blogs, and you tube videos, news papers etc.
here's an example that i remember, this you tube video says that edward leedskalnin the man that built coral castle, built a tower that weighs 240 tons. well thats way off!!!! the heaviest piece of coral he cut and erected was about 28 tons
I wish I could blame it on internet-speak making people lazy, but oftentimes it's pure lack of education. I want to scream every time I see 'then' where the proper word is 'than' and vice versa. And I see it frequently, including in news stories. I rarely read an online article that I don't find a spelling or grammatical error. It's sad, really.
"ESPN reported today that the head football coach for the University Of Florida Gators , Urban Myer, will be stepping down as the head coach after 5 successful years at the university. Urban Myer began coaching the Florida Gators back in 2006 and led them to two national championships in 2006 and 2008. He has won more then 80% of his games after taking over for Ron Zook. The news about stepping down came out and is said to be just a personal decision."
"Doctor Vicky Pope is the head of climate change advice at the Met office.
"In the last decade we have seen that the temperatures haven't gone up very much, but they are clearly a lot warmer then they were in the previous decade," she said."

A doctor said, "warmer then"? Really?
ARGHGGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It makes my eyes bleed every time I see it.
LOL! I'm embarrassed to say that's my country's public broadcasting system too! They often carry on as if they're oh so intellectual and all, yet here they are, not able to spell properly!
Yes, I've also noticed the two words 'then' and 'than' being mixed up more frequently lately.
Here in Australia, because of our accent, the words 'sought' and 'sort' get interchanged too since they're pronounced the same. So I've seen sentences where somebody's 'sort' something, as in "He sort refuge in ..."
