Default Neighbor plowed driveway, what can I do to thank him?

I had half of it shoveled already and he took care of the other half. It would be difficult to thank him in person since I don't really see him too often...also he and his wife both work shift work so I don't want to bother them if they are trying to sleep. Thought about leaving beer on his front porch but it would probably freeze. I'm not a good cook so baking is out. Would a gas card be ok? I don't want to blow him off and "not" thank him but I also don't want to overdo it. Someone had plowed my driveway last year after a heavy snow and I think it was him.

I think a gas card with a thank-you note would be good, if you don't see him in person. If you see him, I think a verbal thanks and a little cash for his trouble would work. I have a neighbor who does my driveway and I just about have to wrestle him down to get him to take any money. I tell him, just to help keep gas in the truck.

If you or a family member does any baking, a box of homemade cookies or a loaf of homemade bread will nearly always get a positive reception.

The gas card idea is a good one, too, with the price of gasoline going up again.

And sometimes, the old-fashioned approach is best: write a thank-you note and leave it tucked in their door. Thank-you notes seem to be a dying art these days, and particularly if your neighbor is over the age of about 50, he might well appreciate that the most.

I just don't know when I'm going to see him next. If I get a gas card, would it be acceptable to put it in his mailbox? He has a long driveway and I'd hate to drive up and get his dog barking if they are trying to sleep (again they are shift workers). The snow is too deep to just walk over there and again that would probably get the dog barking.

Hmm that's another option, thanks...just don't want to shortchange him since he plowed it once before (last year).

Yes, an envelope addressed to this man (with a gas card) and left in his mailbox would be just fine. A nice surprise in the pile of daily mail.

Not supposed to leave unstamped, unmailed items IN a mailbox. Some places are VERY stern about it...wait 'till after the mail runs that day

Would the newspaper box be better? Assuming I can get out there before he gets his morning paper.
