"online" is a very broad statement. Are they referring to people that use internet to access things like netflix? play online games? or browsing the interwebs?
I grew up on the internet. Everything i've been interested or people i've chatted with are from the interwebs. Sure i lack majority of emotions and human interaction normal humans have. But most of the time the interwebs do not effect my mood. Depressed or happy.

I don't feel that "online" is the cause of anyones depression. The things they study/survey sometimes makes me wonder, hey....they should do a study on people who perform surveys.
