News and a question, Can you eat something alive?
I sure cann't and will not even try.
Eating live frogs, rats "cures tummy upsets"
BEIJING (Reuters) - A man in southeast China says 40 years of swallowing tree frogs and rats live has helped him avoid intestinal complaints and made him strong.
Jiang Musheng, a 66-year-old resident of Jiangxi province, suffered from frequent abdominal pains and coughing from the age of 26, until an old man called Yang Dingcai suggested tree frogs as a remedy, the Beijing News said on Tuesday.

When I visited China, they had "drunken crabs"---LIVE and kicking crabs literally drowned in a bowl of wine, spices, and sauces. By the time they were ready to eat, the crabs were lethargic and "drunk" so when you popped them open, they really wouldn't know the difference between dead and alive. I couldn't stomach it but my mom tried one and said it was "really tender and good".

Once and for all...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I can barely eat dead animals at times, so eating a LIVE one is definitely out of the picture!

Lots of the scallop fishermen will eat the raw scallops right when they are caught and shucked... and still wiggling. *ew*.

I've swallowed a mosquito or blackfly before by mistake---flew into my mouth...open, again, hard to imagine I know. Would never do anything like on purpose. YUCK!

If raw oysters on the half-shell qualify (believe they may), I'm guilty

I think there's something inherently wrong about eating something while it is still alive. It's just plain mean and cruel and there is no need for it. How would you like to be eaten alive?
I saw these people eating a monkey's brain while it was alive in the show 'Faces of Death'. They had a table with a hole in the middle and the monkey was trapped in this table with his head in the hole on the table. Then these people were hitting the monkey in the head with these hammers while the monkey screamed. Then they started cutting into his head while he screamed. I was barely able to watch all of this and had to turn it off. I just thought it was extremely cruel. Why would these people need to do this anyway? What pleasure did they derive from it?

you beat me to the punch - I have munched on things that just flew right in.
Since I am such a sushi freak, I would probably be willing to eat some sashimi off a moving fish - I have seen this done on a show - but I haven't tried it yet.

I could hardly believe this, but after years of enjoying raw oysters, I may not eat them anymore after learning a local man died from a bacteria he ingested eating raw oysters in Key West, FL. His wife also ate oysters, but never even got sick. Here is the story in our local paper:
