I pretty much don't answer my front door unless I have invited someone over. Almost always when someone I wasn't expecting knocked on my door it to sell me something, tell me about their religion or they have to wrong house. I now just ignore people knocking because when I am at home I don't want to be bothered. Just wondering what others do.
I always answer the door. If I'm not expecting someone, or didn't see them pull in, I will have pistol in hand. Such is the life of an aware gun-owner.
I always go to the door naked. Those who know me expect it, and those who don't end up rolling on the ground in the front yard, clutching their eyes and screaming.
Teach them to come by my house with their religious pamphlets...
If the temperature outdoors is between 60 and 90, and I'm home and not asleep, it is probably wide open. I get door-to-door solicitors maybe twice a year. Such is the contented comfort and relaxing liberty of an aware non-gun-owner.
I do the exact same thing you do. If I'm not expecting company, I don't care if my car is completely visible with lights on in the house etc. I feel no obligation to answer the door just because someone decided to pop-up. My friends/family all know better so if someone knocks at my door, I already know it's an uninvited guest. I leave them where they stand- at the door!

I quick put on my salesman outfit, run out the back door, thru the neighbors hedge, around his garage, down his driveway and around to my driveway. Then I nonchalantly walk up my drive with my fake salesman suitcase and pester the interloper into buying a weasel sharpener until he leaves. Twice the guys actually bought one but I never sent it to them and kept their money.

hovajova nitwits are the worst. although a friend did con some holy rollers into washing his car once... never ask a smartaleck "is there anything we can do for you today"
I usually look out the front window and see if there is a car I recognize in front of my house. Sometimes someone will drop by for some reason and that's ok. If I don't recognize the car, or if there is no car, I just wait unitl they walk off the porch and I can get a look at them. If it's someone I know I will then open the door and call them back. If not then I watch them walk away.
I don't care if they know I'm home or can hear me in the house. I feel no guilt about not answering my door, ever.
