I kind of remember hearing something about that , but I had completey forgotten about it. It's funny to hear about this area on other stations and it being the "hot spot" in the country. We usually beat out Death Valley...but too many times they still don't give the true temps being this is a tourist area...wouldn't want to scare off that revenue
I personally (with my own 2 eyes) saw it one time when it was 147...people do not believe it though . They made tshirts for the souvenier shops saying "I surrived Bullhead City 125 degrees"...yeah ok, whatever...There isn't a summer that goes by that it doesn't hit 125+
I can't wait to get out of the desert...20 years is too long lol

LOL... the thing about the reference desk, is that you're either bored silly (like I am right now, lol) or so busy you can't stop to breathe! So on those days when it's slow and boring, yeah I do check CD here & there. Since I'm a youth librarian, I really only spend 3-5 hours of my day on the desk, and the rest of the time I'm doing "behind-the-scenes" work... and that's when I can't check the forum, since it's the core of my real job. Lots of people don't understand what librarians do, so they think we're reading in back - don't I wish!

I once saw a reporter cook an egg on a metal surface that was exposed to the sun. It didn't fry as quickly as it would in a frying pan but it did actually cook. I remember once before I'd moved here many years ago that when I went through on a vacation I had a vehicle that had the silver metal door handles that were common in that time. You couldn't touch it with your bare hand, you had to open it with a piece of cloth or something. The black handles that they have today must have some kind of a coating because they don't seem to have a problem.

I'm proud of myself, I got a heck of a lot of work done today. Not near enough, but if I keep on pace then I should be able to close out the year and month the by the end of the week. Yeah, I know, but guys, I have to be out of town all next week and then again till the 2nd, so it has to be done. I wouldn't even let myself peep when I was eating lunch. So, I was a good girl today. How about you all?

We can't cook eggs here, but we've had that same problem in years past - might even this year as August rolls around as it's been overwhelmingly hot and dry. (We haven't mowed our yard in five weeks.)
I remember once that I burned myself so bad on the metal part of the seatbelt latch that it was red for days. And oooh, pity the fool that buys black leather or doesn't have driving gloves!!!!!

Good morning to all!
jabogitlu - It got that hot in Knoxville, Tennessee? We haven't mowed grass for quite a while either, it looks like August grass - the color of harvested wheat.
It is raining lightly here, so that's good.
MontanaGuy - I never thought about it much, but the door handle thing makes sense.
aiangel_writer - I'm proud of you for working so hard and resisting the urge to CD.

I don't take a formal lunch or breaks, so I consider this a break, when I need to clear my head, and then get back to business.

On occassion. But it's been a good long while, our summers and winters have been increasingly mild. We used to have scorching summers and feet-deep snowdrifts... it's not snowed at all (well, the natives call it "snow," what we get these days) here since 2000.
It thunders and thunders here but rarely rains. A week ago we got a fantastic lightning show and STILL it barely rained! Our garden looks like a weedpatch (as does as our yard, as it seems that weeds can grow, and grow, and grow even as yardgrass lies dormant).
