Thousands of young women wouldn't have eating disorders if people didn't find fat something to ridicule and be disgusted by. What ever happened to live and let live? If you don't like the way someone looks, don't look. People who are overweight have enough problems; they don't need the world's scorn on top of it. Why is it okay to make fun of someone for being fat, but not for having a different skin color? We tell our kids that people come in all shapes and colors and should be accepted, yet we cloud that message by negatively reacting to larger people trying to dress like their peers.

I can't speak for anyone else but since I made a post in this thread I will comment back.
My comment has nothing to do with the overweight individual and I am the farthest thing from being vain...
Word of advice to anyone that has read too much into this thread...Don't ever watch the show "What Not To Wear"...lol

I don't think I was making fun of heavy people, or was putting overweight people down. I was talking about dressing for your weight. Whether or not it's correct to think like this- there is a sense of.....a common sense for what is proper dress.

Not once did I say someone had to be model thin. I am not like this. If people like to be a certain weight, even if it is over their "normal" weight guidelines by DR. standards....I just feel that they should dress their weight. If excess weight wasn't hanging out, it wouldn't be that obvious that there was excess weight to begin with. That's why people think I am thinner than I actually am, because of how I dress.

Seems a little snarky. You've posted several pictures of yourself.

Why would you care what other people look like or dress like?

Seems very judgmental.

And by the way, I would have never said anything, but you brought this up: You have put several pictures of yourself on this forum and I think, "Thank God I moved out of southwest Florida. There is no way she would teach my kid."

What is the purpose of starting this thread?

and gotta love the bikinis on the large woman,,but on the other hand,,,if a woman has lost alot of weight,,and is very proud,,maybe she does want to wear one to feel better,,,and thats alright with me,,
tho i saw one lady two years ago,,,she was ,,huge,,looked like the stay-puff man on ghost-busters but was a woman,,and thru the rolls ,,we didnt even see a bathing suit

the men are just as bad,,,i saw a few french men in speedos,,,big gut hairy,,,,,

i dont get the speedo thing,,,,,wouldnt be caught dead in one,,,may as well wear nothing,,,
I see that sort of thing at our beach too. Except we don't get many hairy Canadiennes .

Mrshvo, I think the same thing as you do about women, in particular, who seem to have no sense of themselves. You and I are from about the same era and probably wore some pretty outlandish things (meaning goofy looking) back in the early and mid 1980's but I was as thin as a rail and could carry it off.

But now, and I'm sorry if this is snarky, I also don't get it when ill-proportioned young and not so young women exhibit a roll of fat for all to see and marvel at. Why?

I'm heavier now than I was in my 20's (who isn't) and am eternally dismayed at the amount of clothing I need to wear to cover it gracefully. But you're not going to catch me out in public (except in that rare midnight skinnydip) with bare fat overflowing.

While the defensive say that they are not making fun of people who are overweight (and by the way, lets NOT read the thread about if you would date someone who was overweight..) just commenting on what the overweight should wear...maybe the overweight don't think that skinny people should wear what they wear.
This thread was started by discussing what OVERWEIGHT people should and should not wear. If you're not picking on the overweight people, the thread would merely be discussing what people should and should not wear.
I have seen many a 40+ age skinny Mom with kids in tow, dressed highly inappropriate.

I'm amazed at how some people read so many different things into something. Especially without voice inflection...
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose...

I couldn't agree more with this statement. And I'm quite sure that is the gist of what this thread is about. Anyway....
There are women where I worked at that would come in wearing some God awful get ups. And a friend of mine who is totally stuck in the 80's...you can see her walking down the street a mile away with her hairdo!...and no, I'm not making fun of people with 80's hairstyles....ok, yes I am!...haha
I was serious about the TLC show "What Not To Wear"...I know quite a few people who would be perfect candidates for that show!...lol

LOL Women.

Most men seem to have no sense of themselves at all! Knee-length baggy shorts and loose t-shirts. They all dress exactly the same way. Jeans, suits and ties, ho hum.

And the metro-sexual thing? I haven't met many well-dressed men who weren't gay. Sorry. That makes up at least half of my male friends. You'd think it would catch on, but 97% of all (American) men dress in the most boring way possible, unless they are gay or their wives or girlfriends buy their clothes for them.

Does that even the playing field?

I know guys who love heavy set women. They encourage their large lady to dress sexy. I personally don't think it looks sexy but who am I to judge someone else's perception of beauty? If I don't like what someone is wearing I don't look. I am sure there has been more than once someone has looked at me for wearing something they didn't like but who cares? If they feel the need to talk about me behind my back for the way I dress then the problem is on them for not having the self esteem to mind their own business.

I also love the woman that is in great shape.... in her forties... but feels like she can get away with wearing her teen age daughters clothing. I'm not saying dress like a grandma....but c'mon!!!... be tasteful for your age.
