Keep hearing that Ottawa stands out a bit because of good government jobs. Anybody know what those jobs are exactly? Thank you.

Every Federal Government ministry, with a few exceptions, has it's main offices in Ottawa or Gatineau, across the river in Quebec.

Most of them also have regional offices in each Province capital.

From A for Agriculture to Y for Youth Development, they run the gamut .

I would suggest a look at the website of the Public Service of Canada, they are the main hiring organisation.

Honestly, I am open to may things that is government/social/HR that kind of thing, I'm not very picky, as long as the job is decent and somewhat stable. What is discouraging me however is that I'm looking at job listings in Ottawa for this field on LIINKEDIN and hardly any listings show up. On the other hand, if I look in Toronto there are a load of listings but each of them has so many applicants, same with if I look in Seattle. I'm sure it's simply because Ottawa is much smaller, of course. But how does one look for jobs in a seemingly good market such as Ottawa or Calgary with their small populations? Thanks.

Not much chance of getting hired if you are not a Canadian citizen BTW.
