You might want to consider Montreal which is a much bigger city than Ottawa and has an amazing jazz festival in early July. Two hours away.

Less than an hour north of Ottawa in Quebec is a charming hill town called Wakefield.

About the same distance but east is the town of Montebello. It features a huge log castle luxury hotel called Le Château Montebello.

And just over two hours northeast is the large Laurentian mountains resort area centred around Mont-Tremblant.

Ottawa is a good city and has lots to do but i agree with the Jazz fest in Mtl.
