There is a lot of Heathen music, some of it excellent, most of it awful, but probably inappropriate unless you are a Heathen (or at least sympathetic to the themes of Norse mythology). Even if not, it may be worth checking out anyway just to see how 'other' pagans are going about music and you may find some links to other stuff you like.
If you go to you tube and search on pagan you get a lot of beautiful music. Some isn't ceremonial, some is. I found this group via You Tube and have downloaded (legally) several of their albums since. When I need to feel inspired its a great pick me up.
Ceremonially speaking, I love the feeling of this one.
Speaking of music does anyone know of any pagan groups that do love songs? I have tried Emerald Rose & Blackmores Knight. I know there are other groups but having trouble placing them at the moment.
I don't know any music that is marketed as ritual pagan music. The first clip actually sounds more like a chant from the Gregorian Monks. Not quite pagan.
As a pagan I like to listen to songs about nature and love.
And most music is contemporary.
If you want energetic with a Celtic flavor, try Tempest.
If you want mainstream happy energetic songs about peace, love and Nature, Micheal Franti and Spearhead.
For modern Native American with some traditional mixed in, check out Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensamble (complete with crickets! And love songs)
For a fun 'liberating' song, Dar Williams did a song called 'The Christians and the Pagans'.
It's a story song about a woman who visits family for the holidays.
Sorry I don't have something that is more ritualistic. I doubt you will really find any since music of those times was not 'recorded' - meaning there are no texts documenting the kind of music made. The earliest recorded music was from the Gregorian Monks. It the earliest known music.
May I ask what you are wanting the music for? Might be able to give you something more specific for a use if that's what you are seeking.
One of my favorite of the neo-pagan songs is Avalon is Risen. Leslie Fish has released her first new album in years available with the instrumtation or the retro filk with her and Monster (her 12 string) and its the lead song. In fandom pagan/wiccan/druid/ecetera have long been 'mainstream' and filk music has a lot of 'pagan' songs.
That song does not appear to be on you tube, but here is the Amazon link. The offical site has the limited release retro version. The album is generally pagan themed. I'm still trying to decide if I like retro or full best. The retro is more 'folkie' than the full backup but both are beautiful.
I love Dar Williams song. I like the way it exemplifies that in the end the core is the same. Emerald Rose has a couple pagan meets christan songs. Summerland is like a country pagan song, and Merry May Folk is wonderful.
