I read about this little girl today. When I did, I cried, as I am sure many have done as well. I didn't see a post about her. If I miss one I am sorry. I wanted to share her story in case anyone has not seen or heard about her. Breaks your heart. Very brave little girl and family. Little Avery Lynn is only 5 months old and the doctors have told her parents she has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and most likely wont be with them within the next 18 months. Her parents, family and of course Avery are trying to "scratch things off her bucket list". Her story on her blog tells it much better, with much more detail, they are the ones living it.
I don't mean to be picky but I hate when journalists describe a sick baby as "brave". They are babies! Is some other sick baby "cowardly"?
I am aware that the opposite of brave is cowardly, but someone doesnt have to be acting cowardly for another person to be acting bravely. If she is in pain or uncomfortable or just icky and is still smiling or holding on then yes she is being as brave as she can be.
I just read that too. So sad. Her Daddy wrote on the blog about it and said that he was going to post more that he had archived and didn't get a chance to post yet. I feel so bad for the parents. Terribly sad. The dad posted a picture of Avery, that said that he took 15-20 minutes before she died..she has the biggest smile.
At the top of my Daily Gratitude List every morning is
Four healthy Children.....I admire those parents who manage to keep it all together while dealing with a serious disease or injury. Now those folks are surely BRAVE.
Avery's mom is a loved teacher at the local elementary school. Just this past Sunday the neighbors near the school hosted a lemonade sale on their behalf. Pretty sad for such a talented teacher.

There is a girl in our area fighting leukemia. On one of the news anchor's FB pages he writes: "She is a child benefiting from Penn State's THON. Thanks to THON, requests for prayers have become viral through twitter and the facebook page: Prayers for Emily Whitehead, a 6-year old fighting leukemia. Amazingly, her parents report new signs of hope after there were very few last week. They posted this photo. May prayers continue to be with her and her family."
It really rubbed me the wrong way because I know people who lose their children to childhood cancers every day. Did they not pray hard enough? Did Avery's parents just not have a big enough prayer circle?
Ugh.
