Heck no. I've heard about the sexual escapades of some of the 13-14 year olds in my little New England town at some party in someone's backyard, so no way would I allow my kid to a back in the woods party with booze!!!!
It's a sad state of affairs. My daughter, who's now in her late 20's, and who also went to school here, didn't drink. Other kids just couldn't believe it. They wondered what she did for fun if she didn't get drunk.
As some other posters have expressed about their kids, my kids wouldn't want to go and if they showed up to find it was a drinking party they would call to be picked up. If a kid isn't drinking I don't know why they'd want to be there...drinking is kind of the only point of an unsupervised, underage drinking party. Maybe they'd stay as an observer to see just how stupid their friends really are...???
Still, it's not the kind of thing either of them want to be associated with.
I think it depends on the child. My (then 15) son purchased his pit pass for a rock concert last summer. It was an all day festival. I had lawn seats. I trust my son. He has no curiosity with alcohol. He has asked his friends about why they drink, they tell him to be free, loose inhibitions or something similar. Son say to me, "mom, I don't need to drink to be free or comfortable with who I am" He was offered many 'a beer in that pit, he turned them down politely. My son, yes I would allow him to go. But that is just him, I can see my youngest being more succeptible to peer pressure and the need to fit in, for that child, even at 18, no.
You clearly don't know what a pit party is.
Just a couple months ago 28 kids were arrested here in a field celebrating the end of a successful school year. Most were seniors, but there were underclassmen as well. Not all were drinking or doing drugs, but ALL were picked up for being there.
A pit party isn't purchasing passes at a rock concert. It's when a bunch of underage kids get together and talk someone into buying alcohol and drugs for them, finding a remote area where they can build a fire, and indulging in what is available. They may play music, and my guess is it's loud, but it's not live as in a concert venue. There are NO adults present nor is there anyone with much sense.
rockinmama, when the police show up at that pit party and shut it down, YOU are the one who gets to explain to the judge why the minor child you are legally responsible for, was at a gathering, unsupervised, where alcohol was served by and to minors.
As long as you don't mind doing that, AND as long as you don't mind sending the message to your kid that breaking the law is OK, then you go right ahead and keep on keepin on.

If you were to conduct this survey among blue-collar Northern Minnesotans, I would think the results would be different.
any desolate area, pit or whatever rocks and gravel and drinking unsupervised
all I see as a parent is a brightly lit red light saying the word NO !
maybe for a boy I could be maybe just a little more lienient to saying ok, but highly unlikley.
but a daughter, not a chance in the world.

I think boys, being the dominant of the species are more likely to go to something like that and come out relatively unscathed for the future, but girls? Not a chance. Still, I would never ALLOW them to go.
You have boys, I have girls. You would naturally worry a little less.
I Have one of each and I'm not too sure there is less worry with boys.
Fights break out more easily with guys I think. Also you'd worry that some girl might get drunk, have sex with one or more of the boys, wind up pregnant and point a finger at your son, maybe even falsely accusing him of rape.
