I'm sure you're a nice young woman, but maybe think a little more about what you're asking from your mother. You're an adult now. Your friends and your luxury expenses (yes, a cell phone with unlimited texting is a luxury) should be yours to deal with. You should at least sleep in your own room; it's more respectful to your mother, even if she says she doesn't mind. If your friend is so uncomfortable alone in the basement, perhaps he should seek a different living arrangement. He could rent an apartment with a roommate or two. Still, the fact that you're asking for input shows that on some level, you're concerned about upsetting your mother. That is to your credit.
