My mom did that to me.

She took everything out of my room. Everything off my shelves. Literally everything was bare. I think she left all my clothes, I don't remember, it was over 10 years ago. All because I got lippy and had an attitude. Well to this day she still thinks I have an attitude, so much for her punishment.
Clearly, she's not much of an enforcer, and to be effective, discipline needs to be enforced. I'm not a fan of stripping the room either, but sometimes, it's all that's left.

A lot of teenagers shoplift but that doesn't mean it's not a big deal. Shoplifting costs stores a lot of money every year. I believe if a store does press charges in many cases you get a fine of a couple hundred dollars. Have him sell off his video games until he makes up that amount, and take it from him as payment.

I am a Mom of 2 now, but I was a very rebellious teen. Had it not been for my strict parents I would never have straightened out and completed college. As parents, we never know if we are being too strict or too easy on our kids. I firmly believe odds are in our favor if we lean towards the strict side. Of course, it's harder to take this road. Good luck!. I dread the teenage years. Mine are 5 & 8 and I feel overwhelmed:-)
