they said they'd keep doing what they've been doing back when they were in People Mag after Josie was born. Meaning, they aren't going to start using BC now.
Well, it's not my place to judge the Duggars and, yes, children are a blessing, but there is one thing I just don't understand:
How do they afford it? Seriously, what kind of job does a guy have to have to support a family that size? My wife and I have four kids and it sometimes gets real tight for us financially. 20 kids!!??!! How, I just don't get it........

Personally, have always enjoyed the show. Don't necessarily agree w/ all their beliefs, but overall, a great family compared to the likes of Kate Gosselin or the crap on E!/VH1.
And they didn't start doing tv until after child 16...thus, not a money thing.
But, think her stating this is on the verge of irresponsibility seeing she & the baby were moments away from dying. Six months of NICU.
No where does the Bible state to have kids until it literally kills you.
I think people should be able to have as many kids as they want as long as they are supporting them. Having said that, I`m wondering why they feel the need to keep having more. Maybe it`s not for the right reasons.
121804, I also agree that it is irresponsiblity to even think of another child when the baby was in the hospital for 6 months and the mother being close to death herself. There gets to be a point were your body has had enough.

Yes and no. TLC, I'm sure, gives them a nice chunk of change for their show.
GreenScoutII, the Duggars have always been a financially stable family. They own business, investment properties, and are completely self-sufficient--even before they started with TLC.
I don't know what the rest of the adult Duggars do, but the oldest child owns his own business. So, he's well on his way to being self-sufficient, too.

All 20 children aren't minors. Some are adults and married. When people have big families there are generally groups of children who are close based on age. The older children are well out of the nest when the younger children are born. Sure, it's more expensive than having a few children, but it's not like they are raising 20 children at once. Just checked their ages. By November this year, the five oldest children will be adults. In four years, four more will be adults. The good news is that the mother is 43 years old. She can only have babies for a few more years. An end is in sight.
