I came across some photos of screaming babies and toddlers sitting on Santa's lap, and I have to ask: why would someone subject a two-year-old to something they clearly find torturous?
A couple of my facebook friends posted screaming babies on Santa's lap pictures. I have to admit that I cracked up when I saw them. I never made my kids sit on Santa's lap if they didn't want to, which is why we have exactly one Santa picture from when my oldest daughter was four months old. She's 11 years now.
My friends who posted the screaming baby pics are good people and good parents. Different people have different senses of humor, I suppose.
Your title made me laugh! I have a picture of me crying my eyese out on Santa's lap when I was little. It's true, many children don't like Santa. I sure didn't!
But I agree with Bella, the child in that particular picture doesn't look afraid of Santa. He's actually leaning towards Santa.
He's mad at Dad---probably worn out from being at the mall all day.
They are just nice pictures to have - there are some Santa's that are in high demand, and other Santa traditions that people spend tons of money on. For the record, when we went to the mall shopping this weekend, I didn't see very many crying kids with Santa - just some in line waiting. I think it has to do with the Santa. This Santa was absolutely great with the kids.
I think that there are far worse things you can force children to do - like dressing up for Halloween as a newborn. Granted there were some Elves and Santa babies in line...so maybe that isn't much different.
The little boy looks like he's fighting to get off dad's lap and away from Santa. I have a picture of my daughter on Santa's lap at 9 mths and 21 mths. The following year she just handed Santa her wish list and I snapped the picture. That was it for her. It wasn't worth forcing her onto what she thought a stranger's lap.
My father in law grew his beard out near the holidays and wore a santa hat. When my hubby started turning gray, he'd do the same thing.....only shave during the summer, and trim through fall and winter, letting it grow near Christmas. He has sparkling blue eyes and wears a santa hat during the Christmas season....Sitting on Santa's lap was never an issue with my kids. LOL They had always known "Santas", and were simply not afraid of strangers as long as WE were okay with them. It's funny, isn't it, how different kids are? If my kids were terrified, I would NOT make them sit with him. It's comical, the week before Christmas, hubby generally wears a santa hat around. He gets an absolute kick out of little kids asking him, "Are you SANTA?"....and hear them asking their parents, "Mommy.....that's SANTA, isn't it?!" I kid you not y'all, the man looks like a Santa, bright, jolly smile, twinkling blue eyes. LOL
