Holy cow, I have never even heard of such a thing! How frightening!
As awful as it sounds, when I was little and my sister (who never could do anything wrong) was being REALLY mean to me and my parents would do nothing, I would say "Want some ice cream, OH WAIT YOUR ALLERGIC". But then again we where sisters and she had all kinds of things to say to me. Now its a joke between us.
Did you have severe reactions to dairy products? I have severe reactions to shellfish and carry an Epi pen at all times and would definitely need to use it if someone rubbed shrimp on me like the child who was attacked in the article...that must have been terribly frightening for you!

No it was my sister who is allergic to the dairy. She has the epi pen. We actually had the cutest video called Alexander the Elephant who Couldn't eat Peanuts which we showed to her kindergarden class. I was the bully in this case.

I am sorry, I read your original post completely backwards!
My goodness. You can almost expect that children would verbally tease, but I'm shocked at the percentage teased by teachers and staff.

But, Sicherer noted, 18 of those who were bullied, or about 20 percent, were teased or harassed by a teacher or other school staff.

Reminds me of when I would tease my little sister with ringworm. I had it on my ankle. Caught it from a puppy. It took FOREVER to get rid of it---multiple treatments, trips to the dermatologist, etc. When she would be particularly annoying, I'd start moving my leg around, threatening to rub my ankle on her. Of course, I never actually did it.
We had a little girl at the daycare I worked in that was allergic to everything. The only food she was allowed to eat was the meals she brought with her from home. Her older brothers tormented her horribly. They would eat breakfast and make a big deal out of it and wave food in her direction. She was in tears almost every morning. We finally had a conference with the parents over it... they were appalled.
On the flip-side of this is the girl in my kids school that is highly allergic to peanuts. There is a table in the cafeteria that is marked as "peanut free"... and the kids take it super seriously. They police each others lunches to make sure there are no peanut-containing foods in them. When this girl goes into her classes, her desk gets wiped off with a Lysol wipe before she sits down (because you never know what the student before her had on their hands)... and there is always someone willing to do this for her. After reading that article... I realize how special it is that our students have supported this girl and watch out for her, rather than make a target out of her for an allergy she can't control.
