I have a top load washer and I wash 2-3 loads a DAY. A DAY. I'm so over it I can't even begin to tell you. Of course, that includes towels, sheets, mats, etc. I've decided that the kids have to wear their pj's at least twice before I wash them. 3 kids, 2 adults and 3 dogs...we generate a lot of laundry.

I NEED a HE washer and dryer in the worst kind of way!

As far as cleaning:
Laundry every day
Vacuum every day; vacuum under furniture 2x a month
Sweep kitchen, entryway, utility room every day
Dishes every day
Wipe counters in kitchen 2x a day (at least)
Clean toilets 3x a week or so
Wipe bathroom sinks and counters once a day
Dust living room/downstairs 2x a week
Vacuum vents each week

The kids (ages 8,6,3) help with putting their toys and laundry away. They also have to hang up their towels, wash windows, use the magic eraser on walls, etc. Kids also help feed and water the dogs.

I usually weed the flower beds weekly and my husband mows and edges. I cook and do the dishes...but the kids have taken to unloading the dishwasher which is just fine with me because I don't care for it.
I iron each week; I have a pile that piles up all week. I iron in front of trashy tv shows. I pay all of the bills, grocery shop, plan meals, and cook. My husband will grill every now and then, but the majority of the household duties are mine.

I am a SAHM, full time student with 3 kids and one on the way.

My house is never as clean as I like it, but I think we are really critical of ourselves!

There are only two adults in my home: DH & myself. No pets.

DH works 12 hours a day (self employed), so he is not at home much during the week.

I am semi-retired and take care of house and yard. Hubby exhausted.

Clothes get washed when there is enough for a load. Still use oldfashioned toploading washer, but the loads are small, so no problem. Very little to iron; do it in front of TV.

Cleaning gets done when something gets dirty. Kitchen is clean-as-you-go. Dishwasher is run when it gets full. Do a more detailed cleaning if guests are coming. (Main level has living area, kitchen, dining room, laundry, master suite. Downstairs has two bedrooms and baths, but does not get cleaned unless we have guests. It does not get dirty with no one living there. Just dust, vacuum, and freshen baths if someone will be using them.)

I have very few knicknacks to collect dust.

Used to wash sheets once a week; now do it 3 times a month. Cannot tell the difference. Just have one set sheets per bed. Strip bed, wash and dry sheets, remake bed. No sheets to fold; less linen closet space needed. Replace sheets when worn or tired of them. When kids were at home, they had no top sheet, just duvet in cover. Easy to make bed.

Towels get used, hung up to dry, and reused. Your mileage may vary on the number of reuses. Wash towels twice per week.

Kids can be trained to reduce dirt tracked into the house: remove shoes, for example. No need to have dirty fingerprints on walls: you do not need to hold onto walls to walk down a hallway. Hubby has been trained to put dirty clothes in hamper.

I'm suprised to read that most husbands don't do much housework. My husband must be a diamond in the rough! I'm keeping him forever!

thank him every day!

I am a sahm with 2 kids (15 & 9), husband, brother, dog, cat, and 3 hermit crabs. and 15 yr old daughters friend lives here 1/2 the time lol

I dont have a true "schedule" but on average
Mon & friday are big cleaning and laundry days (we very rarely do any on weekends)
tues, wed and thurs I just basically do what needs to be done. 1-2 days would be vac, sweep, mop. bathrooms, hermit crab cages, pet beds, gardening, yard work, whatever home project I am doing. right now installing a 1/2 bath.
15 yo dd chores: bedroom, main bath, mowing, whatever is asked
9 yo ds: set table, feed animals, periodically take out trash
during the summer they have about 10x that amount. I like them to focus on school and extracurricular activities during the school year though. ds is kind of special needs so it takes forever to get him to do the simplest of chores. 20min to set the table.
husband????????????? whatever he wants sometimes he'll take the cars in for maintenance.

My husband is a neat freak! I am so lucky to have him as well. He can do a mean bathroom and mop of the floors to rival that of my OCD may she rest in peace Grandmother who use to white glove the house after she cleaned!

As for me....I clean everyday, cook everyday...but on the verge of selling my kidney for a housekeeper.

When I was working FT my husband did more around the house. Since I am home more, I don't really need him to do as much as I did when I was working. Plus-the kids are older now so I expect more from them. My husband does whatever I need him to do, but I don't need him to do that much right now.

I won't! It took quite a few years to get him there. Lots of negotiating. He always liked for me to earn money. Everytime I was offered a job for more money, I always said, "Well, the commute is farther. I'll need some more help around the house if I take that job." Or "The promotion comes with a lot of responsibility. I'll need you to pick the kids up from childcare after work and some help around the house." Eventually, we came up with the split the house in half solution. It's totally cool. We've been doing it for over 10 years. I'm not giving it up for anything!

That's why my husband got the first floor when we split up the house. He's a much better cleaner than me. He's not a neat freak, but he definitely applies himself better than I do! He gets the first floor because that's what guests see when they come into the house!

Not too loudly, people!

I posted about my son the neat freak and got accused of not knowing he suffered from OCD.

So, of course, I asked him if he was and if I was a tremendously neglectful mother not to have noticed. His answer, "No! We lived in a 1,000 square foot house with one bathroom and I had two total slobs for brothers."

Keep that husband, Hopes! (And everybody else!) I think men who clean house are as dead sexy as men who change diapers.
