Talk about OT. The OP simply vented about her child not being allowed to bring a soda on a field trip. Maybe the mods need to set up a parenting debate thread. Some of you seem to enjoy turning every thread into a debate.

Thanks for that...appreciate it. Nothing is perfect, but it good to have a school district on your side. We dont demand anything from anyone....we educate them and then compromise. We hope someday with his immunotholgy (taking food drops) he can live a near free allergen life.

I asked our allergist, who has participated in numerous studies on peanut allergies with researches at Duke and Johns Hopkins as well as written papers on the subject, what is causing the big increase in food allergies. And her answer is no one really knows. Are we too clean of a society now....chemicals put in the foods....who knows. But food allergy treatments and testing and research are just in their infancy so we are sure to see more information in the coming years.

Just recently found out about a Johns Hopkins study regarding kids who had an allergy to milk (like our son). A large percentage of these kids could tolerate products with milk in them that were baked....such as lasagna, pizza, etc. For some reason, in baked or heated milk, there seems to be less of a reaction versus say drinking plain milk.
