bikinis for toddlers?!
I saw this (broken link) article about skimpy clothes for girls...& I'm wondering what y'all thought about it.
2 years ago I worked at a certain coffee-shop chain as a 2nd job to save money for my coming baby, & I was just shocked at how some of the little girls were dressed. I've seen strippers who wear less makeup & longer skirts!
Don't get me wrong, I love to be sexy for my BF (at home), & I'm an adult & can wear a thong if I like, but I see a really huge issue with a 10-year-old girl dressed in a push-up bra, miniskirt & thong (the underwear type, not the cheap pool-side shoes). I am not prude, but good lord. It cannot be good for girls that young to wear such provocative clothing. They are way too young to understand what they're advertising, IMHO.
Am I out in left field here? Does anyone still believe in leaving a little to the imagination? Does anyone else see a problem with a 10 year old in a thong?!

Im shocked to see what young girls wear these days. Being a male I know exactly what is on a young males mind, and the clothes that these girls wear certainly dosent leave allot to the imagination IMO.
What ever happened to the "not to my daughter" attitude? It seems to be gone with the clothes dads are letting em wear.

It's just interesting that I'm seeing girls who probably aren't even in high school wearing things I, as a grown woman with a child, would not be comfortable in.
...& let me assure you, my dad would not have let me out of the house dressed like that! I'd have been in deep you-know-what...

I agree that the little girls clothing is getting too short and revealing. It boils down to the parents buying them the clothes and by doing that making it acceptable. It can be a challenge to buy little girls clothing that is acceptable. My DD is 7 and I think that nearly half of what is for sale at certian clothing stores is not ok for a little girl to wear.

My mom has a picture of me in a bikini as a toddler (mid-70s). And FWIW, I have always been anti-fashion and hate dressing the latest styles. Tshirts and jeans for 30 years

me too....though it was the late 60's....and I turned out to be a jeans/shorts and t-shirt girl too.
Now I'm a mom of 4, 2 are girls, both in their teens, and I don't allow them to wear certain types of clothing--even if they were to buy it themselves. They will make their own choices about their clothing when they're older, but right now I still have a say. They rarely argue with me about it, they're 17 and 14, because they know it won't get them anywhere. They still look great, in style, and yet, it's pretty modest. It CAN be done

I don't believe in the sexualization of children...pure and simple. I watch what my 10 year old wears and will continue to as long as I am the one buying the clothes, I expect there to be alot of grief about it when she gets older.

Ok I don't have girls, I have boys. But my princess niece who just turned 7 in June has gotten bikinis from me since she was born. Not gross ones like thongs...just nice normal full coverage ones and I am careful to be sure they will fully cover everything and usually with little coverups or sarongs or skirts. I can't help it, she loves them and I love to buy them. She's soooo cute in them. I also buy her skirts and dresses and handbags and shoes...it's totally out of control. But thankfully she's such a girly girl she totally satisfies my need to shop for pink things.

I would rather see a bikini on a toddler with their little pot belly sticking out then on a 16 year old. I agree that girls are wearing way too revealing clothing these days. I have a 12 year old DD, going into 7th grade and she dresses pretty conservatively yet stylishly. MOST of the girls at school dress appropriately, usually jeans/t-shirt, but there are some that look like the just came off the red light district. Usually when I see these girls out with their parents it isn't hard to figure out why they dress like they do though.
Bermuda shorts are in style here as are longer t-shirts. I am seeing less belly shirts so that is a good thing.
