I thought we were talking about other people's children. My children are 38 and 44. I have never had a meal ruined by children because I love children; but I absolutely hate to have someone barking into a cell phone so loud that the entire room can hear it. I even once had two girls on a table across from me that were conducting a conference call. The dining table is no place to conduct business. We don't go to that place anymore. Anyone who allows cell phone use, will not be getting my business. Cell phones need to be out of sight and never used in public. My opinion. When a person has class, you never know they have a cell phone. Use them in your car or hotel room. My grandchildren are not allowed to have cell phones at the dining table.
Children on a trip have to eat somewhere. Get a life.
It's called having a job. Never use a cell phone in public? HA.
Children do have to eat somewhere, it's called their house or hotel room. People with class would never have a misbehaving child in public. When a person has class, you would never know they have kids with them
i have 3 kids all thought manners by myself and their mum kids should go out eating with you any time you want within reason of time and age should we not have a family day out untill the kids are old enough to converse , i think kids enjoy being with the parents on special days life is to busy these days that people have forgot to enjoy themselves with family i love it when we as a family go out have a meal a laugh some times even a moan but thats life enjoy it why you can. ps am from the uk so we might see things differently over here

Do you allow your children to run around in the restaurant? Scream at the top of their lungs? Bang or climb on tables? Annoy other patrons?
Or do you child(ren) act well-behaved, converse with you/your spouse, and act decently so as not to annoy or harass other patrons?

I love children, too. However, I would never tolerate my child (or any child who is with me) acting out in a restaurant while other patrons are trying to enjoy a meal.
Hate to break it to you, but business is conducted in restaurants all the time --- and has been long before people had cell phones.
As for class?? Anyone with class would not allow their child to annoy and harass other patrons in a restaurant (or anywhere else!)
I have a child and I can tell you, I'd rather listen to a business person "barking" into a cell phone than have a bunch of kids running around, screaming, climbing on tables, etc while I'm trying to have a meal.
My theory is this: If your child cannot control him/herself at the dinner table at home, what makes you think he/she will be able to control him/her self at a restaurant?? And please don't tell me your child can control him/herself at your dinner table --- if you've taught your child proper manners, they would use them everywhere. Further, what makes you think the world should have to accept your child's unruly behavior when they are paying for a meal at a restaurant? Or trying to have a nice time with their family, friends, significant other, etc???
If you think it's OK for your child to run amouk in a restaurant, bang on the backs of other people's seats, scream, yell, climb on tables, etc. then don't get offended when someone hands you their bill since your little darling(s) ruined their meal.
I had some kid throw water on my back and one parent laughed and the other apologized for the kid but reminded me that it was just water. PARENTS CONTROL YOUR BRATS AND TEACH THEM MANNERS!!!!!!!!!
well its good job i brought my kids up with respect and manners as i was brought up 1 dirty look of my ma was enough to instill fear in me to behave lol
what i dont like is kids who are mis behaved but dont blame the child blame the parents i flew over to NYC and changed in Atlanta the flight i had a child kick chair all the way that to me is kids being kids but the dad should of known better when i confronted the dad he looked at me like i was green glad he found out the easy way i wasnt and decided to move his child and tell him off or the police would of been meeting me and an ambulance meeting him as i said kids are kids but the adult tells the child what is or isnt acceptable
Couldn't agree more; I hate it when parents think it's fine for their kid to do whatever they want. I am a nanny and I ensure that whenever we go out to eat, the kids sit nicely and behave. Same at home. However, the parents think it's cute and funny for the kids to sing at the top of their voices, bang their cups etc. They let the kids jump up and down on plane rides too. It's the parents that need teaching these days. Anything for an easy life...
And while we're on the subject of children, why are there so many kids with pacifiers?? I'm not talking babies; I mean 3 year olds.

I honestly don't think I could have contained myself had this happened to me. After the parent laughed or shrugged it off as "only water", I probably would have taken a pitcher of water and dumped it on both of them or screamed at the top of my lungs in the kid's face SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, OR GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (would have scared both the brat and the parents into behaving -- and I'm sure a standing ovation from the other patrons! )
And before any of you "feel good" parents say how would I feel if someone did that to my kid?? It would NEVER happen. Know why? I've taught my child how to act like a decent, respectful human being and not like some unleashed animal who thinks it has the right to destroy everything, harass everyone, and do whatever it pleases whenever it pleases.
I would never take my toddler out to dinner after 7.00pm! I would hire a babysitter.
Sometimes the toddlers are better behaved than the older kids!! I've seen kids 4 to 8 years old acting like total animals in restaurants while mommy and daddy sit by doing nothing.
