Uhm, since I'm actually parenting the 11 y.o., I know all about pushing boundaries (although my 7 y.o. pushes them far more than her older sister), so your sage advice isn't the least bit necessary. I'm confident my daughter would respect me about the hair color (that she's not interested in) because my husband and I aren't unreasonable in our rules for her. And she's not a follower. Most of the time when kids start doing these things it's because they're following the crowd (like in the dye party scenario) or they're trying to p*ss off their parents. I'm not worried.

Okay then , though remember that in 6 months if you come on here saying "my daughter used Sun In ", i will change my status to "I told you so".

That made me laugh. I really hope these words don't come back to bite you. My parenting philosophy is to never use the words "My kids would never......"

What I find very interesting is the few posters who seemed convinced that every child will push the boundries, if you have a healthy balance with your children they don't have a need to push the boundries.

Don't worry. Flip flops only in the house. My house. Outside I usually wear paddock boots or athletic shoes. I rarely go anywhere athletic shoes would be inappropriate. The world is safe from my toes.

What i find interesting is the many parents who seemed convinced that their children will never push the boundaries. If you have that unhealthy assumption with your children then you will often be in for a surprise.

How is the assumption that kids won't push the boundries unhealthy? It all depends on how you raise your kids and the balance you have.

Did I say you used those words, or did I say I never use those words? Whose reading problem?

Anyway, way off topic. I'll leave all you perfect parents to it.
