I don't know if they sell them anymore but we use something called Kaboost for my 3 yr old. You put the legs of the chair on it to raise the chair up. It renders the chair still usable by an adult (I think the max weight is 200 or 300 lbs). I have used the chair to do crafts or other work where I wanted to sit higher.

Just found the website so I guess they do still sell them. I love mine and people who come to my house remark on how they prefer it to a standard booster seat you strap to the chair. Its not the cheapest option but I really do like it.

Our kids just sat with their legs folded under them if the chair was too low. We used boosters when they were toddlers though.
