Before we had kids some friends told us to buy a puppy first as preparation. I thought the idea sounded stupid. But I'll be damned if waking up at all hours to take that thing to pee, cleaning up all kinds of unexpected messes, losing a few of my prized possessions to the puppy's antics, having to think ahead before going away for the weekend or out for a night, and having to learn to toughen up in order to properly train that damn dog didn't mirror a lot of the skills I would end up using as a parent. Heh.

Not long ago I read an interview with a woman who summed it up perfectly. She said when she was pregnant, she pictured her life, with a baby in it. But in reality, the baby IS her life. Everything else loses priority.

me too! I was brought home from the hospital in a 911. After that my dad still had 2-seater sports cars for years. On the rare occasion he had to take us somewhere, one of us kids would sit in the hatch back!
