In some cultures they circumsize females as well.

If I end up with any boys I'm leaving things as-is. If they feel compelled to get it done later on in life (some people do) they can make that decision. I think it's a cosmetic thing, and since it can't really be reversed I don't want to make that choice for them.

They didn't have my brothers done and so he got it done then too, he was around 9. He would have much preferred having it done when he was a baby. For me I would have left the room had I encountered an uncirc. man back in the day...sorry guys!
I really hope you take the time to read through this thread, and do some more research before you decide.

I had Christian and Jewish believers in mind who are looking to the Bible for proof that circumcision is the right thing to do. If circumcision is so pleasing to God, then why exclude girls from this covenant?

I would like to know the logic behind this as well....

Muslims also circumsize for religious reasons. I don't know if they do just males or if they do females as well?

Wiki has a lot of information on female circumcision:

I read the whole thread and would still never consider not doing it. Easiest decision of child rearing I made actually. :shrugs: It is just a personal choce.

Yes it is a choice. But most people do it out of habit. It was initially done as a rite of passage, a sacrifice to the gods. Most religious circumcisions were done to theoretically reduce male gratification. Why perpetuate that?

I will be the first to admit that I did it for cosmetic reasons and fear of infection. Nothing more, nothing less. I understand people do it for religious reasons, it just wasn't why I did.

I've spoken to plenty of peds and they all agree, it's really an unnecessary and painful procedure. I also know Jews who opted not to do it. It's an antiquated practice.
